Exclamation 2021 MLB trade deadline + reckless speculation thread

We're officially post-AS break now so there's only a matter of time until the rumors really heat up. Who will buy, who will sell? Any big blockbusters this year?

No real news quite yet, but let's use this thread for discussion and so on as we approach the deadline on July 30th.

Kris Bryant and Craig Kimbrel to the Angels for Mike Trout.

Maddon is reunited with KB.

I'll be interested to see what the Dodgers do, if anything, as far as adding a SP goes. Seems likely Bauer won't be back and Kershaw is on the shelf for now. I'm sure they will be looking for a bullpen piece too.

I was thinking about them too, re a potential Berrios or Pineda trade. I think even without Bauer they still have a really solid playoff rotation if Kershaw will be back- Buehler, Kershaw, Urias, and Gonsolin is pretty good. I could see them adding someone reliable but not elite if Kershaw will be out for a bit but back for the playoffs, but if he'll be back soon I kinda think they'd be ok staying put with the rotation

It will be sad to see the remaining core be dismantled but I'll be happy to get anything of value for anyone & everyone. Hoyer was saying the other day that it won't be a total rebuild like before since pieces are in place but I'm skeptical. You can win if you don't have starting pitching, & we don't have much of anything besides Hendricks.

As I just said on @MLBNetwork of the teams in the middle, and beyond the Cubs who are known sellers, the teams most likely of the group to do some selling may be the Indians, Mariners and Braves.

https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status...13350659956742

While there’s some chance, considering all the unfortunate things that have befallen the Braves, they may sell, Freddie Freeman isn’t going anywhere in trade. No surprise they want to keep the superstar, and he’s told them he wants to stay long-term. @MLBNetwork

If the Braves do end up buying, I actually won't mind that landing spot if the Twins were to trade Buxton. I just don't really know what the Braves could offer to make a worthwhile trade for the Twins

If I was a betting man, I'd put money on either Bryant or Story to New York. Mets desperately need a right handed bat as any soft tossing lefty can go 7 innings 1 ER against them, and third has been a revolving door recently. JD comes back soon, but he's atrocious in the field.

I'm interested to see if Ketel Marte, Joey Gallo, and Carlos santana get moved to contenders.

I have no idea if the Braves will be buyers/sellers - only 7 games back of the WC and they have a +19 run differential. Thats best in MLB for anyone .500 or below, and the only other + team in that category is oddly enough the Marlins

My unrealistic dream scenario is Berrios somehow nets Manoah- yeah I know it won't happen. But if the Twins were to pair Berrios with a bullpen arm, and the Jays decided to go all in, you never know

A more realistic main piece in the return would probably be SWR. Decent get, but not on the same Manoah tier. Nate Pearson is intriguing and has been, but man the dude perpetually has so many injuries

I don't think Max is going anywhere. The team is close enough to contending that giving him away would backfire.

Plus I’m guessing they want him to retire with the team

He does seem like a guy that the Nats wouldn't trade for better or for worse, but they're 5 games under .500 and in 4th place in their division, with Scherzer's contract being up at the end of the year. In theory that all points towards being a great guy to move

All they got for Harper leaving was a pick. I could see them doing a deal to move him for prospects and trying to resign him in off season like Yankees did with Chapman.

Indians overpay for a below average starting pitcher.

And the biggest thing they got was … not Harper.

Man people hating on Harper. He played hard when at the nats. Agree don’t think it would have been wise to pay philly money to keep him. Scherzer will command cash off season but older pitchers kind of tough. Nats don’t have enough bats they should trade him as much as I would hate to see it as am a nats fan and scherzer fan

Scherzer is more beloved than Bryce, I don’t see them moving him. He is also 89 strikeouts from 3000 and I think the Nats keep him for that alone.

Mitch Haniger to the Indians

Not likely but the Indians will definitely target Robbie Grossman.
