Default Best payment method for in-person deals?

Dealing with someone on this forum with no feedback.

We agreed to meet in person for a deal over $5k, but under $10k. I’ve asked around and hard to get a straight answer.

What’s the best method to take payment from someone without having to worry about it coming back to bite you? The buyer doesn’t want to deal in cash. I’m ok with that, because as a buyer I wouldn’t want to bring that much money either, but being the seller I don’t think there’s much protection?

Paypal? Venmo?

Thanks.

I'd personally have that amount wire transferred. A low fee for that kind of money (typically ~$20), no recourse on the buyer's end, and its typically immediate enough your bank can at least confirm it over the phone if it doesn't just immediately show in your account (some banks process all day, others at certain times -- just bring a check, so you have your bank details)

Cash is king! Meet in person, pay cash. Pay with PP, ship to address.

Yeah, the more I think about this the more I believe it. I don’t think I’d be covered under PayPal’s seller protection by doing a meet up deal. The buyer can dispute the charges on his card and I probably win.

Cash. At the police station. And both of you have each other's (verified) contact information.

Default huh?

He will meet you in person but does not want to bring cash?

I'd stay home!

Cheaper all around! Safer too!

From what I see, there’s really no seller protection for Paypal FF. I’d like to the believe the guy will be truthful but not a risk I’d be willing to take.

In a parking lot.

Make sure his name is “E”, and introduce yourself as “G”

Good point! I would do the same. I have heard mixed stories of people getting payments reversed on even F&F. I'd personally ask for cash in this scenario. If they seem bothered you could always take a small amount of maybe $25-50 for their time.

Hold BIG BILLS in the air and find plastic strip. As far as counterfeiting goes some crafty people have taken bills in lower denominations and made them into a high denomination and your counterfeit pen will still tell you the bill is real. The plastic strips inside the bills are in different locations by their denomination and this cannot be faked.

This is wrong. A buyer can still file with their credit card even after paying friends and family. If it were me, probably a deal done at a local bank.

If it were me I'd insist on cash and meeting up at a bank where I have an account so I could deposit it right there on the spot. Meeting at a bank is probably the safest place for both buyer and seller. If anyone disagrees let me know why I'm wrong.

A cashier's check seems like the best option to me. Can't bounce like a personal check, easy to transport and less subject to theft than cash, can't get disputed or reversed. Still meet at a police station.

....then get robbed 2 blocks from the police station on the way to the bank to deposit the check

i would prefer the bank where it can be deposited immediately.
