my advice for the Adam Bomb is to play the long game. do not get caught up in the race to the bottom.
The Adam Bomb in this years Project represents two of Topps' most iconic cards (well, ones a sticker, but you get the point) of all the cards released in this years Project, this one WILL be "known" in 20 years, guaranteed. COULD some of the others be as well? sure. But this one, will.

I like the Taylor Mookie Betts too- glad to see he changed up the color palette a little. I agree that and the Canseco are his two best P70 cards so far

I like a lot of Taylor's cards, but I have a feeling the Betts is going to print dark.

Cards are up! 124.99 for the Murphy AP, 150 for Rivera, 170 for Betts and Robinson.

lol, I thought you were joking that they put it at 124.99, but they did! Why would they break it down to "and 99 cents" for that price point?? Why not $169.99 or $149.99 for the other cards? Very odd.

Agree on all points. His designs have been a little too consistent lately and it's good to see him change things up a little. If the colors print brightly this might be a really nice card. I'm out on another Mookie but good to see Taylor mixing it up.

Looks like Topps is only 2 for 4 for their correct year descriptions. Betts is clearly 2008 (not 1964) and Murphy is 1978 (not 1969). As for Rivera being 1970, who knows? You could have told me it was 1958, 1994 or 2012 (or pick any other year) and I wouldn't be able to argue it.

So I get that the Trout connects to Adam Bomb and the Project 2020 Ermsy Trout, but I think I'm too young to "get" Garbage Pail Kids. I recall it was a bad, and intentionally gross, movie with cards tied in somehow. Someone convince me to buy more than the one and possible bonus card coming with my Wheeler Ermsy set, if you actually think it's a good idea. I'm not too keen on duplicates--never sold a card in my life.
On to today's cards: I like Betts, but we have too many! The card may look dark but it's decent. An acceptably nice Matt Taylor. I like Robinson, but we have too many! It's a perfectly nondescript NY Nico card. Nothing to get upset with; nothing to get excited about. Meh. I like Rivera, but we have too many! A better action shot than a lot of the Riveras---and much like the Robinson, a fine example of the artist's work. I'm collecting Rivera so I'll get it, but not super thrilled. I'm also too young to understand the Dale Murphy excitement. The 4 images rookie card concept is actually kind of cool, as is the glowing bat. But it's a no for me. 6/20 on the week. |

I only dabble in P2020 and P70, but how can I get both Ermsy Trouts? Adam Bomb and the other (horizontal) one? I mean, I have a Topps account and know how to order, but is there a trick to getting one of each?

The Garbage Pail Kids cards were a phenomenon well before the movie came along.

Well, finally a Murphy card. And wouldn't you know it, my favorite artist out there, Bobby Hundreds. I bought a 5-pack to go with a Trout-Bomb 5-pack. That's how much I freaking love Dale Murphy. Essentially traded out 5 extra chances for Trout chase cards and 5 cards that will almost definitely hold their value for 5-cards that are sure to be worth $10 once I have them in hand just to support the artist doing a Murph card.

But seriously, cross your fingers, buy as many chances as you're comfortable with, and if you strike out, buy one from a seller later. |

Ironically Murphy's RC is on the 1977 Rookie catchers card, not 1978. Not sure if that is part of the Bobby Hundreds error theme or not.

Risk usually keeps the general boarder template design from each years card in tact, and then changes all the text to graffiti script, adds the tye-dye, butterflys, and chrome effects. But yeah, with 1970 its just basically a box to begin with and not much else, and he added a team Logo which isnt accurate.

On the Topps website the Ermsy trout does not show up with the rest of the 70 cards for sale. I actually have to search it. Strange.

His rookie is 1977, but he also has a 1978 card on the four face rookies, it's the Lance Parrish rookie in 78 where Murphy appears again.

1) you could root for the team that was kind of nearest and had become the de facto "home team" thanks to having a AA affiliate in your hometown. In my case, this would have been the Cardinals who, at the time, had the Arkansas Travelers in their feeder system. I hated the Cardinals with a passion but most of my friends were Ozzie Smith and Jack Clark fans. 2) you could catch every game imaginable of the Chicago Cubs on WGN if you had basic cable. I did not like the Cubs but thought they were at least interesting and loved Wrigley. 3) you could catch every game imaginable of the Atlanta Braves on TBS if you had basic cable. Tuning into Braves games in 1983 and watching Murph swat home runs, steal bases and gun down runners on the base paths en route to winning NL MVP was essentially my intro to MLB baseball and I loved it. Had every Murphy poster in my room, traded all my Ozzie Smith and Sandberg cards for Murphy cards and pretty much copied his pre-swing bat wobble - much to the chagrin of my little league coaches - while dutifully watching every game I possibly could. It wasn't 100% voluntary fandom as there were really only 3 choices, but it was about as true of a sports fandom as I've ever had. I've been a Braves fan ever since. |
