So, without naming names, I bought into what I thought was a extremely reputable breaker who's mentioned many times on this forum and participated in a high end $2,500) spot mystery crate. I received a BVG 1955 Sandy Koufax and when I went to enter it into Beckett Cert check...it shows up as a ....;( 1981 Rickey Henderson). While I don't think this was purposefully done, I have been asking them about the discrepancy and what they would offer to me if it turns out to be a fake in a refund //credit// whatever format. I still have not heard back and am really worried that I've been burned. This is not a Instagram or new breaker and many of you break with them (website, published in magazines, etc.) does anybody have advice on if this is just a Beckett not update or if it's fake? And, any advice or do I even have any course of action to be made at least somewhat refunded? FWIW, I've spent well over $100,000 in past 12 months with them...

Beckett had a registration number error with BVG slabs back in the day and some BVG numbers got wiped out. Contact Beckett and they’ll sort it out. I’ve never seen or heard of a fake BVG slab so I wouldn’t worry about that.

Your first mistake is asking them what they will do for you if it is fake before it has been determined it is fake. If it was me I would have just sent them an email that said hey, I got my winnings today, but when I look it up on BGS, it says it's for Ricky, not Sandy. Can you please advise. Thanks
Instead you want them to bind themselves to a "settlement" before it is determined that a settlement is warranted.... I'd ghost you too while I research the issue. Now is your slab fake? I don't know, I only see 1 moderate resolution pic posted, so based on that I'll say it's 100% real cause you are yelling FIRE when you don't see flames, but rather only smell some smoke, which is probably just BGS farting if they mixed up the cert numbers.... It's what I call patience and tact.

It's not fake, it's an old serial number that the idiots at Beckett wiped from their database when they were upgrading their system from Windows 95 to Windows 98.

Yeah, I appreciate that input but for the sake of time probably should have time stamped everything for you. FWIW: 5/21/2021 I started it just as you "recommended" and even said "I am probably putting it in the wrong Cert lookup abs basically blaming myself for user error or that database was screwy). Just wanted to know if y'all could help clarify for me why I'm getting this Rickey to pull up. " fast forward a week or two, and I simply asked if they had heard anything back from the Beckett folks. They said they'd get back time that day (2 weeks ago). 6/29/2021 Today, I simply emailed asking if they had heard anything. (No date applicable) I never asked them to "bind" to anything but just wanted reassurance that if it in fact turned out to not be legit , what they would offer. "Ghost you?" ...what? You don't me abs luckily I have the pleasure of not knowing you. It was a simple question asking the community for advice. Hope your week gets better man. Just curious as I don't / can't dabble in the high rolling---was there anything else in the crate?

I am relatively new to vintage baseball and beckett in particular. I just become concerned, not 'livid' or accusatory to one of the above's because when i searched BVG database it showed up as a 81' Rickey Henderson. I thought it was a relatively reasonable question to pose to the group who clearly has a lot more knowledge on the subject than I do. I will digress from that and say yes, @hxcmilkshake, they have excellent breaks and the breakers are extremely professional and funny. Thank you for the clarification. |
