Randomly stumbled into a small card show at the mall this afternoon.
A few quick observations 1) First time going to a show since Jan. 2020 and it was at the same space The amount of dealers at this show doubled from the very small show attended 16 months ago 2) Only recognized 3 of the dealers from previous shows. I asked each dealer how long they had been collecting--most replied "about a year". Mostly young guys--most were extremely nice. 3) All dealers were rumbling about how slow the show was, and it seemed like they were expecting a bigger crowd. It was a Friday afternoon, but the show was not well attended so I'll give a pass 4) Every dealer had the same stuff--retail wax and more retail wax and Ultra Ultra Modern-2018-2021 Select football was EVERYWHERE!!! Most of the tables had good portions of their displays dedicated to Select Football. Everyone had the same cards too. 5) It was super fun being at the show, but I felt a little spooked by the sheer glut of modern product and the inexperience of many of the dealers there. I almost bought a Bat Down Acuna, but balked at the price and it was pretty dinged up after examining it closely. The whole thing felt like 1991 to me Post Script--A guy gave me a great deal on a couple of cards as it was his only sales of the day thus far (Chronicles Prizm Silver Black Jordan Love and a 2010 Aaron Rodgers Refractor in a PSA 9) |

But yeah if you’re a dealer and you show up with the same stuff as everyone else it just looks bad and makes the show pretty laughable. I can’t imagine how much wax is unopened right now just sitting on shelves or in people homes.

Hobby yes, but retail is everywhere and the prices are trash. The field level rookies are overproduced because of retail. It is a big no product for me. I would rather open a blaster of chronicles trying to hit a Prizm black RC/silver.

I have no clue on hobby but I assume it’s overproduced too. Seems like they ruined another product. Extra level and tons of retail.

That’s pretty wild. Chronicles is terrible, and I’ve a ton of retail of both. Yes they printed way too much select, but at current prices it’s a pretty fun rip.

Select maybe overproduced but it's the best looking stuff for 2020 in my opinion.

It almost wins by default for having in-game photography instead of lame photoshops compared to the other chrome brands. I can only stomach the Field Levels though, the rest of the versions are a bit too gaudy for me.

That is why I specifically called out the Prizm black/silver. They are so sharp and I would never open a chronicles hobby pack or box due to price. In al actuality, I think I have opened 1 football hobby box and that was Rookies and Stars. I was lucky enough to to hit a burrows auto /25 and a crusade red of Herbert. The burrows in PSA 9 and the Herbert was a PSA 10. I made money on that break becasue of the Herbert sell.

I think there are enough Select die cuts that every man, woman and child in the US can each have one. |

Yeah I’ve held off getting any select. I’ll just wait until they’re all cheap on comc for my PC

since this is sort of a "card show" thread, i'm looking to move two 2018 Kaboom cards. There's a card show today about 20 minutes from where I live. I'm looking to move these cards, would a show get me more cash+trade vs selling online?

Most likely not more of cash+trade value. You’re going to be pegged to eBay value no matter if you sell on eBay or or sell in person. The one benefit you could have is if they look good for grading. You could try to sell them on the fact they can see the condition in person over hoping the condition is that good online.
