I sold a few PSA 10 Lukas at the peak (around $10k worth). I bought some other players (Mahomes) a few weeks later ($2.5k) but the ones I bought are so SSSP that none have sold since so I don't know if they are up or down.

One of the Lukas I sold was a low-ish #'d rookie that I never thought I'd sell, but I bought it for $60, graded it for $25, and sold it for $7k - just so hard to pass that up. Hindsight, though, I would've sold all non-numbered PSA 10s that I didn't pull myself and then just bought them back again right now lol. Still waiting for the Luka I want to hit the market to replace the one I sold.

Nice! You'll be good with the SSSP angle.

A lot of people sold at the peak...and then promptly reused that money to buy at the peak, as well.

Some cards are not just valuable, but too rare to be seen again.

If these rare cards resurface, those sellers will be asking for the moon.

One can ask for whatever someone willing to pay for it. Nothing new just need a sucker to pay more or if it tanks get someone to catch a fallen knife aka buy it.

I’ve sold nearly all cards in February and March. And been selling when I get my psa cards back. Been very very greatfull in the amount $$$ money I’ve made. Tried to share my knowledge with everyone and got laughed at. It is what it is.

I just looked in my wallet.

Still have Pesos from my trip to Mexico in 2017.

I suck at this.

Is the peak that’s still to come for the literal handful of players that’s always sold high?

Or across players and sports which I think is what this last peak was about?

The peak was overpaying for psa 10 base cards, prospecting future nba role players, and chasing non-iconic sets. I am sure I forgot some other hobby fads that were pumped.

Although the iconic cards of the hobby took a hit, I believe they will be okay in the long term. If I had the money I am buying those at a discount and HODLING.

I’ve lost out on every auction this week and I consider myself a strong bidder too. Going after numbered and 90’s rookie refractors, not base. I think the market is doing just fine

I would rather have a rookie card serial numbered /200 then a base psa 10.
the market is still growing and will continue to do so.
But that whole run up of base cards selling for crazy prices when there are 50,000 of them and psa 10s of 3rd year star cards selling for crazy money is over.
people just got smart. the new money came in and were being fed info from newbies that all they can spit out was psa, prizm and retail.
while the vets took advantage and sold all that stuff for high prices and used the money to buy the good stuff.
Thats why i think the low numbered stuff will continue to rise of anyone.
Alot easy to know the scarcity of a card numbered oout of 250 or an ssp like a galactic.
psa 10 base cards that are not rookies and base cards selling high is gone forever. the ignorant bought those.
now the ignorant realized how much money they lost and the bad moves they made and either
A, sold everything for a loss and left the hobby or
B, realized their mistakes and smartened up and now will focus on rookies and serial number stuff instead of base cards and psa 10s.
which is why i think serial number stuff, key rookies and sps will continue to rise.
There are way more collectors and investors in the hobby then ever before and alot of them will be here to stay.
A card serial numbered out of /500 5 years ago was not that rare. but now it is cause the community has grown so much and there are so many more people that want cards now.
Iseen it in the 90s with cards and comics, lived through that.
This is the same.
The hobby aint going anywhere.
Things will still sell well and continue to rise, the right stuff.
Base cards and over poped psa 10s will decline, wax will decline as well.
Which is good.

i never thought id see the day when people were marketing cards of 2nd year or 3rd year players and marketing them as a 2nd year card when it is only their 2nd year go so high.

Ill just stick to buying the guys i collect and buying all the serial number and short print stuff and rookies and leave the prizm and hoops base and the psa 10s of base cards to them.
Good content

Yup. I’ve lost several auctions the past week with strong bids. All sold above comps from the last month or so.

1000% accurate.
Its crazy how over the past year i see all these new youtube channels and people enter the hobby thinking and sounding like they are professionals and they only been doing this like a year and are trying to give out professional advice.
While im like man, i been doing this for over 25 years and have literally sold over 1 million dollars worth of cards in those 25 years and everything they are saying is bad advice.
Thats why i barely post anymore and i been on blowout now for over a decade. and yes you are 100% correct. most collectors and top money guys arent even on these forums.

Yup, seems to be a common recurrence here with people.
Not throwing shade at anyone but over the past year or so i realized alot of veteran members that have been on the forum for 5+ years minimum trying to give advice to people actual good advice and they laugh at them and tell them they are wrong. and 99% of those people are all people that are new here and that created an account sometime in 2020.

same with me. with the guys i collect the easy to find stuff is plentiful and cheap. but the serial number and sp stuff just goes for tons.
for instance i collect talen horton tucker.
was hoping to add another nt auto my collection for cheap and there was one at auction that ended yesterday that was at like $200 with a few hours left. during the boom they were bringing over $1200. was hoping to snag it for like $500-$800 since season is over but nope! still sold for over $1300!
i kick myself for not buying all of these last year when they were going for $80-$120 out the gate.

Between Goldin and PWCC the next two weeks, there’s going to be further downward pressure. I have 106 bids in on items right now. All cards I am reasonably interested in buying. Never been anywhere near this number before. Going to be a great month.

Sold a decent bit of RAW during the run up to the peak, at the peak, and as we fell.
My most valuable was the Kabooms.
I bought 6 2019 Lebron Kabooms for 400 avg each and 2 came back 9.5 and 1 psa 10. (At the time 300-500 was the raw going price)
I sold the 2 psa 9s & 1 raw for 7k and I still own the 3 gem copies... and IDC if they go up or down as I do this exact method to keep the grades with the smallest cost avg as possible!

I only buy 2018/2019/first prints/first product lebron Laker inserts, colors, ssp, silvers etc.
Last year it was the same thing as finals approached. Money went to FB and prices just fell hard and kept falling so it has been a great time to buy rare case hits I have been having a hard time finding AND for much cheaper.

The slowdown of grading and long wait times really killed the liquidity and fluidity and has people panicking..

I will just keep absorbing... I can't beat a Lebron PSA 10 silver/mosaic for 40$.. I am having a FANTASITC time buying!

I am finally buying cards again. Getting some great deals and mainly dealing with raw HOF vintage in different sports. I stopped buying from late last year until now unless I found some steals on eBay. I am so glad I didn't partake in the last spike! Even if the market goes down I am still way up on almost everything I have.
