Guys. GUYS!
I just read in the 19th new Kelenic thread that MLB.COM is hyping up Kelenic big time...can anyone else confirm or deny this!!? Who is this heretofore unheard of mystery man? |

1 K, but hit the ball well for his 3 outs. Big difference from Ackley, who was probably the last prospect I was overly excited for.
Gilbert settled down. But you can't live in the middle of the plate at this level

Ackley was one of the worst draft picks ever. What was he 2nd, 3rd overall for a 2B who’s ceiling was .280 and 15 HR’s?

Ackley and other former top prospects like him (Delmon Young and Dallas McPherson also come to mind) serve as a warning to those who tend to invest so deeply in to their cards. Because you could never really predict the direction where their careers will head in once they make their MLB debut. And Ackley's particular case and others like him who failed to reach their potential is one of the primary reasons why I no longer buy in to expensive Bowman Chrome prospect auto's until they actually show signs of promise in the MLB. As for Kelenic, I honestly have no opinion on him, but just hope he does well.

A lot of new money in this hobby thinks that every prospect has a trajectory like Soto and Acuna. Telling them about Ackley, Brandon Wood, and Donavan Tate is like telling a millennial about smallpox or polio.

Shoot I'm old enough to remember Gregg Jeffries and Jerome Walton...it's still easy to get swept up in the hype though.

I’ve always been a fan of buying Bowman wax over buying singles of prospects. As the 2 posts above have pointed out prospects flame out often. I just like to cast a bigger net buying wax so my ‘portfolio’ of prospects is robust. Sadly since 2020 caused Bowman boxes to skyrocket I won’t be able to do that anymore, so I moved on to PSA 9-10 of HoF rookies, why buy a Franco 1st BC Refractor PSA 10 for $1000+ when I can get a number of different PSA 10 HoF RC’s for the same price.

As a Mariners fan, Ackley was considered a can't miss prospect. Unfortunately, we also swept Texas at the end of the year, which pushed out of the Strasberg slot. I still like to believe that if Trout had lasted two more picks, we would've taken him instead of Nick Franklin lol

Kelenic RC autos went up on Topps Now, and most of the parallels quickly gone.

I think they would have locked the S2 checklist by now and probably started printing them already (if not complete yet).

Mr "MoneyChrome20", welcome to the baseball card world where plenty of us don't care about gambling to flip on 19 year prospects and instead like to collect as a hobby. I'm sure that's foreign to you coming from basketball or football cards, but welcome! Glad to have you!

But it doesn’t say anything about his stellar start! That would have been even better.
