Exclamation Be on the Lookout for Counterfeit PSA 10 1986 Fleer Jordan RC, PSA Cert #: 24335483

Goldin Auctions sold the counterfeit version of this card in it's March 8th auction for $600k, but before it was sent to the buyer someone figured out that both the card and PSA slab are counterfeit and the sale was canceled. The PSA cert for this card has since been locked until the authentic card can be tracked down, but there's no certainty that the counterfeit copy won't be sold again in the future. Be careful when purchasing high-end cards, graded or otherwise, and do your due diligence.

COUNTERFEIT CARD AND SLAB:

AUTHENTIC CARD AND SLAB:

(Note that this was a Probstein123 sale, so some features of the card have been removed by their scanner's dust and debris removal software.)

Thanks for posting. Do we know who created the counterfeit? Would have to backtrack maybe multiple levels/people from the guy trying to co-sign it.

Mmm this is a really good fake...
I can usually identify a fake MJ rookie thanks to the usual few differences with the real ones...but not this time.
Are you really sure it is fake?

Yes, it's a fake and no, it's not a good one. The halftone patterning on the front is completely wrong and the dot pattern on the pink portion on the back of the card is wrong too. Some of the printing on the back is also slightly different and way too dark for this set. The cuts on the right and left edges are completely bogus. They don't look like that on a real 1986 Fleer basketball card although there's a lot of trimmed cards in PSA 10 holders with cuts that look like that, so that can be a confusing issue at times if you don't know what you're looking at.

Yes, there’s a fake copy of a PSA 10 Bird/Magic RC floating around out there somewhere that’s in a lighthouse holder. Cert #07001726.

Recently, we know of two collectors that ended up with totally bogus high-profile cards: a fake PSA 10 1986 Fleer Jordan, for which there is an ongoing lawsuit, and a fake 1951 Bowman Mantle.

I love these type of threads, learning is fun, it never gets old. I was looking into getting one since the market is down.

It may just be the scan, but the 2nd set of images that are supposed to be authentic, there is something missing on the back....

I made that point in the OP.

That something seems to be missing on all Probstein 86 Fleer MJ listings. Funny their software removes proof of authenticity.

Do you have the sales date and price of the Probstein123 listing?

I was able to screenshot the PSA cert before it was deleted and only the counterfeit listing (image and price) were highlighted, nothing from the real card.

Thanks for looking out. It's crazy to think that they're counterfeiting newer PSA slabs and and were that close to getting $600K for it.

Really? If my life depended in it, I don't think i would've spotted that it's a fake. That thing looks legit.
