Do you think the extra coin for Auto's is worth it? Or do you opt to go more numbered cards wo/auto ?
Hard for me to pony up when the Auto's simply look like a short quick scribble that you honestly have no clue to be able to make out a legit name. Every once in a great while I do see an auto that is name legible - ok, I might be tempted there. I just can't get into a couple blue squiggles that may somehow be the guys real auto. Numbered cards are point blank - see what you get. And then there are the so-called "Patches". Patches of what? Hard to believe they are from actual jerseys somehow cut up. Look more like random pieces of whatever cloth to me. Just curious y'all preferrences, thx. |

*"autos" (not a possessive noun)
On card autos or I'm out. Unless it's a self pulled Prizm rookie sticker, in which case I'm not kicking her out of the posturepedic. C.R.E.A.M. I want to know that my favorite sporting man crush personally touched, fondled, and caressed my kardboard. #pause Numbered bass just means Hackler fumbled it with his greasy mitts while running it through the embossing press.

I love me some SN, autos, and patches! But I'm more "old school" I guess you can say, and am happy with just one autograph of a player, and don't really need 300 autos of the same player
![]() So to answer the question, I'd probably favor the SN cards. But if I had to get an autographed card, it would have to be special. Example: I collect Aaron Judge, and I only had one auto for the longest time. Now I have two. But both are numbered very low, and I actually love the design of the card itself, and it was cherry picked from the gazillion auto cards out there. On top of that, both Judge autos I have are the only card that exists autographed. So there aren't 39 different colors of the rainbow that are all autographed. What you see is what you get... that are the only hand full of cards autographed, with the base version not numbered, and not autographed. Thats how I choose my autographs. Same with patch cards. Best of the best, because everyone else already has "an autograph." I want the best one, but it must appeal to me card design wise, regardless of the product being expensive or a cheap brand. The beauty of collecting... we all do whatever floats out boat. Good luck |

I don’t hate autos, but for the dollar difference I definitely find myself collecting a bunch of cool inserts, SPs, instead of one auto. I’ve traded autos for non-autos.
There are some autos that look incredible, and I wouldn’t mind at all in my collection. Sneaker spotlights, noir on-card. But for the most part I’m with you, just give me the coolest looking cards without paying a premium for being a “hit”

I honestly started collecting due to autographs. I got Dave Winfield in person on a magazine 30 years ago with my uncle and have been hooked since... so yeah. Autos

Autos all the way. Opinions change all the time about value of sets and even the scarcity aspect of serial numbered stuff is somewhat open to interpretation due to the massive amounts of tiered parallels across sets.
The appeal and demand for autos from players has always been there and doesn’t seem to waver much with time. Definitely ON CARD if possible on the autos. Take a look at Zion’s market for example. A lot of his stuff rode a roller coaster (serial numbered included), but his on card autos were never cheap and they are only getting more expensive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Autos for me, but they're hard to buy with LeBron's prices. Low numbered cards are so cool for me, but just the fact that LeBron spent a couple seconds on my exact card and signed it trumps a rarer serial numbered cards in my opinion.

Personally for me I go for #'d over auto, since #'d are substantially cheaper. Have you seen pics/vids of stars signing their cards? They're simply going through the motions and are bored out of their minds, and in a lot of cases just signing pieces of plastic that will get peeled and put on a card he has never seen or cares about.
#'d though is that guarantee that I don't have to trust "SP" "SSP" "SSSSP" etc. Whatever, everyone thinks their cards are the rarest cards out there. That number on the card gives me that guarantee "on the box". |

Depends on the card/set/player, but my favorite cards in my PC are all on card autos from high end (thicker stock) products.

I used to care about autos a lot. Strangely, I don't as much anymore. I still own some in my PC but I transitioned to serial-numbered rookie cards a couple years ago and hadn't looked back. Recently, I started to pick up a couple low print-run insert cards too.
Nice patches are cool to look at but I don't particularly care for them either (unless I pull them haha) Last edited by eastbayak; 05-06-2021 at 01:02 PM. Reason: Bolded comment: I still like autos, just not nearly as much as before (but I used to be an auto only person) |

I like both but I find myself more drawn to rare or desirable parallels. Autos are cool (especially baseball bowman autos), patch cards are nice but most of the best stuff is way out of my price range. Add to that the fact that a lot of autos and memorabilia cards have questionable origin stories sometimes and it’s enough to give me at least a little pause.

Same, my personal favorite is RPAs. If we're going to use the argument that we're paying so much for these cards as "pieces of art", I appreciate that every RPA I own is unique. Searching out the difference over a 9.5 corner vs a 10 corner on a copy of the 40th parallel of a Prizm is not enjoyable to me. On the other hand, finding a nice multi color patch with a clean auto can make a world of difference in how much I enjoy looking at a card.
