Bought this back in March 2018 for $37. Seems like a pretty good deal now.

Nice, saw that a Blue PSA 9 sold at auction for just over $2000. Great purchase for you!

I have two of the Greens /10 sitting at PSA currently.

Can someone give me the lowdown on these cards? It seems like most, if not all, of the cards posted here are from my time away from the hobby (2004-2020).

Are there a bunch of low print parallels to chase? I'm just curious as to what the appeal is to collectors. They look cool, and they seem to command a pretty penny at times on eBay. Just wondering if I could get a quick scoop?

TWO greens ... I am so jealous, UD. I was outbid on a green about two years ago and now I am having "missed buyers" regret! Please post pictures when you get them back.

PMG's are the parallels for the metal universe base insert set. Dependent on the year there are 3-4 colours, Red, Blue, Green and Purple.

Red is the least scarce, numbered anywhere between 65 copies - 150 dependent on year.

Blue is anywhere between 25-50 copies varying per year

Green is always 10 copies

Purple is only in 15-16 and 16-17 and have 5 copies

My suggestion is buying one to see how they pop in hand, much better than most pack pulled modern cards out there.

That might have been me who won that one...

Will do!

Thought’d I would post some pictures of what I have out at PSA currently for those not on IG. Sorry if it’s hard to discern who the players are, more to show the amount of PMGs collected.

Well some huge PMG sales recently through PWCC. Incredible price increases that shocked even me. Love it, here are some of the sales prices:

Also a Malkin 8.5 that I purchased @ $710.

That Crosby is crazy. A legit sale, too.

I'm surprised at the high sale price for the Crosby PMG because I usually see those high prices for his rookie cards like FWA.

With the new Metal set coming out, maybe they figured there'd be a ton more interest in the older PMG's so this might be a good time to grab that Green before even more collector's wise up to the fact that hockey had PMG's?

Either way, that was a big jump. The Kane looks like a steal by comparison.

Yeah, that makes sense. I think a lot of people are still sleeping on the PMGs. Those cards look beautiful and should be more popular than they currently are.

Seems like people are wising up to the factors that surround the two cards that put them close to equal footing. Yes the FWA may be a mid-high end auto rookie, but the eye appeal is nowhere near the PMG, nor is the scarcity or legacy.

Started this thread because I truly believed in these cards in the long run through extensive research and half a decade watching and looking back on the market across all sports.

Had a few responses up at the start of the thread with doubt but the sales on PWCC is solidifying PMG’s position. I still think these have a bright future going forward and those sales are just the beginning.

I own a lot of these for complete transparency too; Put my money where my mouth is.

That's a good investment you have on those cards. I think their value will go up some more once the new Fleer Showcase is released.

Is that for the /100 patch in high grade? Or a high grade FWA/999?

I haven't been paying too close of attention to either of those but I cant imagine either hitting that number especially the /999 unless its like a BGS black label. But if they do that's crazy.

I think I've only seen the The Cup RC and the YG HG/10 hit that high of a number for a Crosby.

Pretty cool to see hockey collectors come around on the rare stuff.

I wasn't sure of the exact prices, so I looked up a graded FWA.

The last three BGS 9.5/PSA 10 Crosby FWAs sold for $14,000 USD, $9,600 CAD, and $13,600 on eBay, so not quite as high as the total for the PMG one.

After the Crosby Green PMG sold for $19,100, the underbidder sent me a pic of his unsuccessful bid. He was watching my live auction ending watch party episode and heard me and teh chat talking about the sale. He was shocked he didn't win it.

And then a couple hours later, on Clubhouse, the winner of the auction identified himself as the winner. He was hoping to win it for $12-$13k. His high bid was over $20k and he is very glad he won the card.

Nice to see these cards get respect but still a fraction of the price of the Basketball counterparts with Jordan's Green doing $900K+ and Tim Duncan doing $224K.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the next Crosby 2012 PMG Green sell for $50k+

I own a copy that just came back from PSA as Authentic. I can't see anything wrong with it but as Isles4life explained to me, it could be oversized. NFS/NFT

Thanks for sharing. I was super curious about the validity of the price. Cool to hear the stories and thoughts of the bidders.

This card sure jumped up quick into prominence. It has all the same attributes of the 1997 counterparts but basketball is so crazy especially comparing it to hockey I feel like gauging it with the Jordan and Duncan RC doesn't seem apropos. And will always be a fraction compared to those behemoths. Although who knows with the ways things are jumping on rare cards of prominence of coveted players but just my thoughts.

I own one too so I do hope I'm wrong though. Either way I think this card has easily jumped into Sid's top 10 cards.

Comparing basketball and hockey is pointless and pwcc auction to be taken with a grain of salt.

Those PMG's are from the 90's not some retro re-dos.
Especially since 12-13 are one of the ugliest of them all.
Terrible looking. Terrible shine. Terrible condition.

13-14 are way better.

Maybe compare them to 12-13 basketball ones...

I also don't think the comparison to Basketball is fair, and that wasn't the point of my post, rather I am simply noting the huge value differentials bewteen very similar cards. Similar looking, similar condition issues. And as we are seeing Basketball collectors meander their way over to hockey, they are looking for familiar brands and inserts. So while the magnitude of the prices are not ever going to align, the cards targeted are already aligning and hence we are seeing big value increases for some hockey inserts.

The PWCC auction was as legit as it gets. I personally know both winner and underbidder. No salt necessary.

Myself and many other think they are awesome looking. And we don't mind a little edge chipping which is consistent with the original basketball version from 1997. Your opinion is easily ignorable and meaningless when I and others are deciding what we like for our own collections.

I am very happy for you that you like 13-14 way better. Would love to see the ones you have in your collection.

Comparing them to the 12-13 basketball doesn't make sense as they weren't licensed. The hockey ones were. The 12-13 hockey PMG's are the first hockey PMG's ever and are licesned, similar to the 1997 basketball PMG's - first ever and licensed.
