Not sure if I should post this question here but a huge portion of my card collection is 90s basketball. Would that said... what is the best social media platform to share my old school basketball collection with. I would like to show and share what I own and collected as a kid, but rather not share it on Facebook for safety reasons. Flickr, Snapchat, Instagram, Any suggestions?
Thanks! |

Instagram is one of the best imo, great way to share and connect with others in the hobby.

Anyone can live their life the way they want, but I've never understood why so many people want to share everything they possibly can on IG and keep their FB so opposite of that.
Actually we all do know why and we all do it. IG let's you be unfiltered and anonymous. FB not so much and we have family members linked to FB more personally. Both platforms let people live in make-believe land to our hearts desire. I like sharing on IG, and it's easy to connect with people in the hobby, but most of my followers and those I follow are a thousand miles away and 80-90% have anonymous names too and anonymous profiles (kinda like here). It's a big conglomeration of everyone trying to be cool. Not complaining just some thoughts since it got brought up. |

I tried sharing my card collection/interest on Facebook, but no one seems to care. I'm not looking for them to care but it would be nice to have something in common with others like myself and I'm just not finding it on Facebook. I don't expect friends and family to appreciate my old fart cards but I'm almost certain there are many more people out there like myself who would love to reminisce about the old days and share their collection with each other. Also, it would be nice to put my collection together in a digital format instead of having them all over my living room. I grew up in a generation where we put our cards in binders to show them off, with the power of the Internet I'm just looking to do the same thing. ![]() Last edited by Turnstyle; 04-09-2021 at 08:45 PM. |

IG not so much. No one cares what they say or do and half the garbage on IG wouldn't fly on FB since it's way more personal. IG all the way for cards. I will say that I bet with almost certainty that if you post cards on FB, there are tons of people who will read it and be interested. They just won't comment or interact. I can't tell you how many times I've ran into an old friend at the grocery store I hadn't seen in years and we talk about life events and they say something like 'yeah I saw that on facebook.' Everyone notices what you post even if they don't act like it. |

I think sharing cards is fun. We collect and share with different motives and reasons, but one of the best aspects for me is the community, connecting and sharing this quirky passion in sports and cards with others. Ideally making more friends than enemies along the way

IG!
If you like to share your 90s PC and watch 90s stuff, we can definitely follow each other. @houstom13

I was in the fence with social media not to long ago. Originally had photos saved in a Google photos album but that got boring quick.
IG offered some excitement!

You're so right! I often have friends or in some cases, strangers approach me and say "I saw what you put up on Facebook". I usually post funny song lyrics or movie quotes, game and movie trailers, Magic the Gathering, Marvel, and Star Wars, nerdy things. I've been on there since 2007 and with nearly 2000 friends I never get a thumbs up. It's like people don't exist on there in less you feel like complaining, that seems to get all the attention. I'm not looking for attention, I just want to geek out over my Larry Johnson rookie cards. ![]() |

Thank you for sharing, I'm definitely looking into IG. I'm a graphic designer so I am familiar with most platforms for sharing images, just not my card collection. |

Personally I like Flickr a bit more, but that really depends on what your aim is. I like to look at my cards without digging through boxes all the time and Flickr is like a photo album. IG is more of a in the moment thing, you can't organize but you do get connected to other collectors easier.

In my opinion, Instagram is excellent for the reasons mentioned already, and Facebook is tough for the reasons already mentioned as well, so I won't beat a dead horse.
I will say I've enjoyed the time I've spent on the r/basketballcards subreddit. It definitely doesn't get as many eyes as you might get on Instagram or Facebook, but it's generally a pretty good community that features and appreciates all sorts of different cards.

There's also a pinned B/S/T thread so those don't clutter up the feed either.
