When Fleer PSA 10 was a 100K card last time (2020 October) BTC was 13K, so it did cost about 8 BTC's.

Right now BTC is around 50K and it would cost me 8-9 BTCs to get one, the same as it cost a few months ago. If it would drop to 100K again, it would cost only 2 BTCs. I don't see it happening.

I don't want to start a debate about cryptos, I just wanted to point out that there is correlation between trading card prices and other alternative investment markets and inflation.

A Fleer #57 PSA 8 will be roughly the same price as a LeChrome PSA 8 RC? It will be a lot cheaper than a Curry Chrome PSA 8?

That will be strange indeed.

This is a fun game. I’m at like 80% of KD

PSA 8: 10K
PSA 9: 30K
PSA 10: 350K

If 10s drop too much, some of the recent purchasers will purchase more to protect their original and cost avg down

If 9s got down to 13K like suggested, unless there is some other global event, they’d be getting snatched up a ridiculous rate that supply would dry up so fast

Why does it look like it will stick? I can make compelling arguments both directions.

Even with the doubling of PSA 10 offerings in Q1, still very few have cashed in relative to the supply. Should the people who bought in sub $30K want to buy Dave’s wife a new car, you could have a short term supply flood (we haven’t seen it yet) that pushes pricing lower.

We’ve seen a doubling in offerings, so more people than normal for this card are currently cashing in.

Yes please!

Don't worry, she's not getting the car. But it's a weekly battle fighting off selling cards to buy things like that.

Seems a fair guess. The market doesn't crumble, but neither does it keep zooming. I'd bet on a period of retrenchment. Long run I like the cards ($-wise), but after such a run-up and covid cooling down think there will be stabilization for a good while.

I do not envy that position, but I’m generally a “buy everything as cheap as possible so I can have more card money” kind of guy.

PSA 10 is what moves the rest of the 57 market. PSA 10 supply needs to tighten up. Too many hitting the market at the same time, even in the same auction. Once the card isn’t available every day, it will rise again. So probably a little more downward action to come.

In 6 months?

PSA 8: $11,500
PSA 9: $57,000
PSA 10: $230,000

I could use a new set of steak knives. Thanks for the contest!

Too low? I was just throwing numbers out there. Who the hell knows what's gonna happen in the next 6 months. Definitely not me. I don't even know what I'm going to have for lunch today.

And why? Yet again, because there are too many. If there were 25 PSA 10’s, that would be different.

The T206 Wagner is a superior investment in every respect because there are so few to go around. Same with Mantle in higher grades.
I'm not disputing any of this, but you were saying that these are prices we may never again see in our lifetimes, which is why I presented my analysis re long-run returns on this asset class regardless of supply, and I factored the even-higher returns on the even-rarer items into my analysis. (True enough, in the dotcom-bubble era, '98-00, there were only around 50 of the 10s compared to over 300 today. At the same time, the "market cap" on the high-end TPG'd #57s is in the hundreds of millions today, which seems to me to mean a lot of potential upside in the future given just how much wealth there is out there, like in the tens of trillions.)

Is it possible for a celebrity to have the card re-slabbed with their name on the label like they do with certain collections? And if they do allow it, would it bump up the price of the card should it go on the block?

I mean, of course it would. Would the TPGs offer this? And should they? That's another 2 questions.

Here is the Service from PSA -

Pedigree Service
A service that will allow collectors to personalize their labels. For example, the "John Doe Collection" may appear on the PSA label. This will be offered on a case by case basis, reserved for “special” cards and/or sets that must meet certain high-end or rare criteria. Pedigree requests must be pre-approved prior to submission. Final approval is at PSA's sole discretion. Please contact Customer Service for details and instructions.

BGS offers it too

https://www.beckett.com/grading/pedigree-personalized

Beckett Grading Services is now offering a Personalized Label option on Grading and Authentication.
For a $3 additional fee per card (minimum 10 cards, quantity discounts available for 50+ cards), in addition to standard grading fees, customers may now add a single line of text (up to 28 characters) to their grading labels. This option applies to either fully graded cards or Authentic-Only services.

Some examples of personalized text may include the submitter's name/pedigree ("The James Smith Collection"), greetings ("Happy 50th Birthday, Dad!"), awards ("Dallas League Champions"), specific factory serial numbers ("Jersey #34/50", "#1/10,000"), or other descriptions. Text may not be offensive or misleading, nor suggest an artificially limited nature of the product. Beckett Grading Services reserves the right to reject any personalizations at our discretion.

I believe former baseball pro Dmitri Young had this done with his cards.

True, but a bgs 7.5 just sold for $8500 today and another 7.5, 2 days ago, sold for $11,100. Just collectors cherry picking cards these days with the difference in prices in all grades every day.

100K?

A few short years back in the National in Baltimore in PSA 10 they were sitting in people's showcases for $3500! lol

When will this bubble just pop?
