My absolute FAVORITE Kobe insert...I think it personifies Kobe better than any other card out there. Helps that I have one at BGS and have been waiting on it since July too

Ah I figured as much about Fleer. Thanks for chiming in. Even with both Fleer and Topps being considered “low end” at the time, at least Topps had the benefit of better design going for it. And with the Fleer being a tough grade too, perhaps a lot of collectors just don’t feel it’s worthwhile to pursue when there are more attractive options.

Thanks for the tips! I did buy a raw copy that seems to be in pretty good shape, though I don’t grade cards so am not too concerned. Mainly I was drawn to it because it was one of the few Kobe RCs in my price range, though I’ve since bought others I like more.

I think you’ve gotten to the crux of it. It’s just plain not a great looking card. In my mind there’s a halo around Fleer rookies because of the 80s sets, but I can see that prestige didn’t really carry into the 90s — and was more likely just a result of Fleer being the only game in town during those early years anyway.

Got this beautiful Kobe Blue Prizm from 13/14 Select numbered to 49. Back on the bottom has two small indents (which the seller did disclose so I knew) but it's a PC card so I don't really care about getting it graded. Love it

I feel like if you’re collecting Kobe, topps chrome rookie and ex2000 are the two must haves. Just iconic cards. Yes the new edition is probably rarer, but I’d much rather have a clean ex2000

Out of those I'd definitely go with the EX. It's a true rookie.

not super high-end but i got this for $45 the other day, and bonus it was already graded a mint 9

The kobe is from 2001-02 fleer focus, i believe 1 per box, and it has like a silk silhouette window, very cool. The home versions are /50 but hardly ever show up, but i dig this framed sort of design.

Congrats! I love the 1997 Holojams. Currently Chasing the set. Super condition sensitive given the way they were distributed. Walmart exclusive as Box Toppers placed loose in slightly larger than card size window on box. I purchased a sealed box containing the Kobe a few years back and that graded BGS 9. I purchased a 2nd one soon after but that one got a BGS 8. Kicking myself for selling my duplicate.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on the 1996 SP Holoviews rookie? Do PSA 10’s ever come up for sale? Or a BGS 9.5? I see BGS 9’s are going for over $5k. Is that really the going rate for a 9?
