I now have information that leads me to believe late90sbuyselltrade is also the owner of the backdoored Kobe 1/1 recently pulled by Goldin Auctions. That being said, I have no reason to believe he knew that particular card had a fake serial number.

Are 1996 Ultra Golds faked too? If so how do you spot these Ultra fakes?

No, not to anyone’s knowledge as of yet.

PSA Cert #27123535

This card, a PSA 8 1999-00 Kobe Bryant SPx Spectrum 1/1, was lot #173 in Goldin's Winter Auction 2021, which ended March 7-8. An anonymous tipster sent an e-mail to Rogermaris, 312, and me alerting us to this (and other) fake 1/1 stamped, backdoored 1999-00 Spectrum cards.

Upon verifying this info, I e-mailed Ken Goldin, who assured the item was flagged pending his review. Ultimately, he pulled the item from auction:

After running a quick search for late90sbuyselltrade, it has been determined that he once bragged on his now-locked IG account that fake-stamped Kobe that Goldin rejected "is my favorite card in my collection."

Did Alex know his Kobe SPx Spectrum card was a fraud, just like the counterfeit Kobe Star Rubies, prior to his attempt at unloading it?

Clarification that the SPx Kobe is an authentic backdoored card that had a fake serial number added later.

Thank you. Yes, the serial number is counterfeit. The card itself is backdoored. I amended my post for clarity.

I have to wonder if this guy has any connection to the trio of fakes at PWCC this month.

Probably unlikely. I guess one real Jordan sells well and the floodgates open for people to cash out on the fakes.

What a bummer. That was one of my favorite ig accounts to follow. Will be unfollow/blocking.

Has an insane collection. I wonder how many other fakes in there and glad that I never followed through with the few times I thought about offering on a few rare Vince Carter cards.

Yeah that is pretty wild he has at least 3 really expensive counterfeit Kobe cards!

I wonder how many he sold to help build that insane collection!

Thank you guys so much for you knowledge and diligence. I saw this Kobe spectrum on Goldin and was ready to drop what I would consider a ton of money on it. Then it disappeared. I had no idea what happened. Anyhow, I almost want to contact you guys on any high end purchase I may be interested in making. Talk about Scary!

The MBA grading on the two fake Kobe's was revoked but the BGS certifications are still active.

Beckett apparently would rather keep fake cards in their Beckett holders than admit fault and remove the bad cards from the market.

Last year I bought a Tim Duncan 99 SPx Radiance /100 PSA 9 and a 99 Skybox More Good Stuff /99 Duncan BGS 8.5 from late90sbuyselltrade. I did my research prior to buying these and both are legit. I own several other more lower end SPx radiance cards and just for the sake of doing so I compared a few of those to the Duncan just now and it matches 100%.

Just throwing this in the discussion, I have zero skin in the game. The dude could certainly be in the know on these higher end cards, but it’s also possible he got duped somewhere along the line. He owns/has owned tons of rare 90’s stuff.

The bolded are not mutually exclusive occurrences. It seems like he got stuck with the hot potato and then committed fraud to pass it on.

Absolutely. If he's been informed that the cards aren't legit but is still trying to sell them that's definitely a problem. I'm not giving the guy a pass just pointing out my experience.

I guess that's why I steer clear of these super high end cards. Just too much at stake.
