Vida Blue by Blue the Great would be awesome...….someone contact him

I mean he played about 70 games for the Yankees, I can't imagine why people associate him more with Braves and Reds

The lack of variety and teams is really rubbing a lot of folks the wrong way.
There are 51 artist sets. The artists should start with someone that they and their fans connect to in order to get people interested in their set.

McCormick said in his IG post that Ripken was one of his favorite players growing up: why should he choose somebody that's less meaningful and recognizable? Don C used Deion's 1990 Topps, which is by far and away his most iconic Topps card. It doesn't make sense for him to use a Braves or Reds card that few people remember (plus, the Braves have plenty of cards in this set). Jackie is Jackie: I have no problem with someone giving us another Jackie over Larry Doby.

Artists have to think they're getting a leg up by using Yankees uni, but that Deion would've sold way better in Braves uni.

I associate him with the Braves. But the Don C card is 100% for his own through line with the track "Primetime", the album art that had that track, and NYC. I like that thought process personally, but the quality of the execution is obviously up to debate!

I'm surprised at the number of artists who have used 1990 Topps for their design. It's grown on me over the years, I hated it as a kid. Never thought of it as that popular a design

Looking at his cards, the only other card that might have worked would be 1992 Topps, but he's wearing a batting helmet, squinting, and not looking as bad @$$, so the card would look worse.

Yeah I dont see any difference between using the Deion Topps Traded 89 card or his 90 card. I think Dons execution would have been identical, and the 90 card has pinstripes rather than him in some pull-over.

Don C didn't have to use a specific card image. This isn't P2020. He could have used ANY image of Deion in a Braves or Reds uniform and put it on the 1990 background. I still think it would be cool for Blake to put McGwire in an A's uniform and use his 1985 Olympic team card background.....the opposite of his P2020 card. i wouldn't be upset with Blake doing McGwire again because that is his favorite player and I think that idea would be awesome with the P2020 card.

i honestly think he was going for infant and not bear on the yogi.
looks more like an infant than a bear, and if you were going for a bear reference, wouldn't you include a pic-a-nic basket?

what came first, the bear or the berra? lol

During character development, several names such as Bumpkin Bear, Yucca Bear and Huckleberry Bear were considered, but didn't quite click with either Hanna or Barbera--until the name of New York Yankees star (Lawrence) "Yogi" Berra came up; in time, such would be adopted.

you actually answered the question. thank you.
i remember looking at becketts as a kid and seeing the 48 leaf yogi berra and always wondered if the bear was named after him or just coincidence.

excited for thursday to get here and see all the artist. i feel like we need a break, topps should take a week off before round 2. i need some of those jessie spano pills or something.

I'd go with 1990 Upper Deck as his most recognized...unless we are just talking about Topps do to P70.

I like the Deion a lot! The Watch the Throne background is cool. I agree that I wish it wasn't a Yankees uni. I'm sure we will see Deon in some other unis in this set. I think a lot of artists do a Deon card, especially the artists from the hip hop/graffiti/streetwear/sneaker sector of p70.

This "hobby" is all about Rookie Cards, so all complaints that Sanders is in a Yankees Uniform are moot.

-signed, Not a Yankees Fan either.

"Primetime" is on Watch the Throne, Jay-Z is synonymous with Yankees hats. It fits.
If you like Deion, and you like hip hop, you'll like this card.
If not, it isn't for you. And that's okay. It's a big set.
