I meant no shade to the show - these cards are like the contestant that changes their entire plan halfway through the allotted time and serves up what they know is terrible just to have something done.

I dare name no one. Any time I have, they've produced a card featuring cartoon sperm or pixelated background swatches.

Ahh. my first impression was that Ron is trying to make him look like an infant. I see the Yogi Bear influence more now, but I don’t think Ron 100% nailed the desired effect.

Flipping the lid backwards is a nice touch since that was only “acceptable” for catchers to do back then.

Trying to stay on the positive side to compensate for the generally gloomy tone in here over the past 24hrs. Seems like many of the new posters/contributors to the thread pop one too many Debbie downer pills when they wake up.

How many of this week's cards do you like enough to purchase?

I can't fathom what will come from who is left. Due to either from not being familiar enough with their work, or based on artists who I was familiar with already making something totally lackluster.

Todays trio is sure to confound any casual visitors to topps.com thats for sure (not to mention anyone following the project closely).

I think the gloom has been ubiquitous. Maybe even weighted more towards the people that have been hanging here a while.

They can’t all be Alex Pardee / Naturel / Ermsy level good. With over 1000 cards we’re definitely going to see some filler.

This might be a glass half empty view, but when you say filler, it makes me think that most of the cards are great and it's just a few that take up space and round out the set. In reality, I think P70 has been more "filler" and less substance.

I think Naturel Soto is the best card so far....lower PR than I thought.

I'm curious to see what Quiccs and Mimsbandz do, but the first card of the artists that I was most interested in are in the books. Here's the run-down and how they performed against my expectations:

1 Disturbedd met expectations
2 Ron English met (barely): Yogi Beara is amusing and looks like the baseball nightmare that I expected. I would've liked it more if Yogi was bigger and didn't look so old.
3 Blue the Great didn’t meet (barely)
4 Chuck Styles met
5 Pardee surpassed
6 POSE met
7 Craola didn’t meet
8 Futura didn’t meet
9 Matt McCormick didn’t meet
10 Morning Breath met
11 RISK met (barely)

Add to this NY Nico, who surpassed my expectations. All the other new artists are about what I expected.

I still think it would be great if Topps had each artist tell us what they were going for on each card. It might help people be less critical of cards. Or maybe not.

Oooooh careful there, you are just begging for an Ad Reinhardt to release colored squares as card with lengthy explanations of the work.

I blame Topps a lot for creating this mess and criticism. Each artist submitted their list of guys up front. Why are they frontloading the set with repeat P2020 players that we just got done seeing 20 cards each of? This isn't entirely an artist issue. The lack of variety and teams is really rubbing a lot of folks the wrong way.

what if they've done exactly the opposite, and the set is actually backloaded with repeat p2020 players..

I am a "small market" team fan of the A's. We have a Henderson and Reggie so far. I expect some more from both and probably a McGwire and Conseco. It would be nice to get Jimmy Foxx and maybe Vida Blue, Rollie Fingers, Dave Stewart, or Catfish Hunter (natural could do an other companion like Trout.)

Im thinking some of these artists cards will shape into something better down the road once they have a better feel for it and have seen some feedback.
