I don't think there's any way the Star stuff is going to drop rapidly the way his 86 Fleer did. Ebay got flooded with Fleer 57s when prices took off, but there aren't enough Star cards in existence to saturate the market like that.

Well, just to illustrate the craziness of the market as of late, 3 sales of the 84 Court Kings MJ each graded BGS 7.5 in just the last month, the first on Jan 30, the second on Feb 18, and the third just now:

$4,500:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1984-85-Sta...E/265030102427

$6,577:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1984-85-Sta...-/143942738807

$5,277:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1984-Star-M...9/124596535036

BTW, maybe the only thing keeping this Court Kings card from being the GOAMJC (Greatest Of All MJ Cards) is the oversized format. It seems that Star dropped the ball in some way or other with nearly every MJ card it issued, although the 85 #117 has lots of eye appeal. (And that *could* be Craig Sager in the background, right?)

Thanks for the insight on the 5x7. I was watching that last one tonight! The pop is so low on these that I can’t seem them getting much lower. I got mine today (4.5 BGS) and think it might be my “GOAMJC”!

It is high up on my wishlist, although among the Star issues I am eyeing the #117 and #288 the most, if I can get a good deal despite this crazy market. Money no object, I'd jump on one of the 16 BGS 9.5s of the Court Kings.

Surprised the one tonight ended $1300 lower than the one a couple weeks ago. Hope that's not a sign that the market is cooling off for Star stuff the way it did for Fleer. There are a lot of Star Jordan cards in the Goldin auction ending this weekend so it will be interesting to see how they perform.

GOAMJC! You need to trademark that acronym with the way basketball cards are booming . If you don't, someone else will.

The one sold by PWCC is probably pushed by someone since the price was way too high for a 7.5. However, the last one sold for $5277 seemed to be legit. Again, I personally don't buy anything from PWCC since they hided bidders' identities.

Since the Court Kings are a topic thought I would share a (bad) photo of one I got MJ to sign in 86-87 season. I am biased but much prefer the imperfect vintage signatures over the Upper Deck or School camp modern style. Hell Jordan handled the card his DNA is on it! lol

Also have a bagged set too fortunately. I don’t know what to do in terms of authentication or grading . Why bother if you won’t sell.. but just in case ? Hell they could end up with my kids or the be in my coffin.. You may want to try and dig up that time capsule!

Yeah there are stories. You remember most encounters for sure. I loved getting this set signed. Players always liked seeing and signing the big cards. This would be tough to depart with! Again maybe check the Tomb one day..

I was thinking about making an offer on this one. The centering is nice, but uh yeah...the rest is kind of harsh. lol. What do you guys think, should I wait for a better one. I think this card is going to cool off for a bit.

This one is a disaster, don't even consider it. It will be very hard to ever resell in the condition it's in. Better off waiting for a good quality copy imo.

I respectfully disagree. Any graded copy (outside of authentic / altered) are very solid pieces. Ever see what a PSA 5 52 Mantle goes for?

I couldn't disagree more. The card presents rather well for the grade. If we take the leap and believe the Star 101 in grades 7 and up are 25k plus then many collectors will be left looking for the lower grades out there just to get a copy of the card/image in their collection. I think the ask is a bit insane but the card is actually decent looking and last i checked, we collect cards, not pieces of plastic with numbers printed on a slip of paper encased in them.

I would be happy to own that card assuming the seller was more realistic with his price and it represented a nice value buy for the collector looking to add on for the long haul.

Ok you sold me. What do you think a fair price would be for that card?

Agreed, to call a mid grade example of this card “horrible” is laughable. I have multiple offers of 25k+ on my 5, so if that’s wrong, then I don’t want to be right.

Given the pop-report data on this at each grade, a 5 is considered "low end." (A low-end beat-up Wagner just went for $2.5M....)

I disagree as well, not everyone is looking to spend more money going with a higher grade. Back in October,I bought this BGS 4.5 for just under 5K including tax when I could have gone with a BGS 5.5 with cleaner corners & edges for an additional 1K but the card looked very “skinny” imho. I decided on the lower grade with edge/corner flaws rather than go with the other which would have left me wondering if it was trimmed for the entire time I owned it.
I am more than happy with my purchase.

Thanks but my pic isn't the greatest,it does have some flaws. The top left corner has considerably more wear than the others and there's a 1/4" indentation on the left border just above/to the left of the white circle with Chicago Bulls. Even as-is I was more than happy with the provenance on it and glad I pulled the trigger when I did.

100% agree. This card, in absolutely any grade, is THE grail MJ card.
