Unless you work outside you almost definitely have a vitamin D deficiency, people were never meant to spend this much time inside.

Most doctors aren't qualified when it comes to nutrition, you'd be better off doing your own research (reputable sources only) or going to an actual nutritionist (NOT a dietitian).

I knew you guys are talking about me. I just bit my upper lips.

In some Asian culture and wives tales when one bites his or her lips it means people are talking about them.

I got enough vitamins, thank you, so please stop the talking.

Interesting that you started this thread. I have recently been thinking about taking something to increase my energy level. I will be 48 this year and my activity level has decreased tremendously the last couple of years. I have talked to several people about what vitamins or supplements might help and the 4 that I have heard most often are B12, C, D and Potassium. I am going to start to look for a multi that might help.

I've been taking the powdered version of AnimalPak for the past year. Love it.

You are basically correct. Unless someone is suffering from an extremely unhealthy lifestyle or a medical condition, vitamin supplements are unlikely to produce much, if any result. With that fully acknowledged, the reason I still take them is:

- I can afford to and they give me a small measure of peace of mind as insurance against coming short on some particular vitamin on any given day.

- Just the simple act of taking a multi and few other supplements (the basics, not any of the woo-woo that gets peddled) puts me in a frame of mind to make slightly healthier choices throughout the day. I would actually say that the ritual of taking the pills produces better health than the actual pill itself.

- Vitamin D does seem to actually be something most Americans need. I bike to work and get some sun doing so, but other than maybe a coffee walk or two, I'll be in my office for most of the sunshine hours and really do count on my Vitamin D to help supplement many necessary functions.

Again, you're totally right and people peddling miracle pills should be force-fed laxatives.

Not an expert, but it's always been my understanding that your body can only utilize so much of each vitamin and any extra is passed out of the body unused.

1 omega 3 daily, whey protein following a workout, creatine prior (depending on the workout).

So much misinformation in this thread...

If you want to start taking vitamins please consult your pharmacist or physician.

Just because you can walk into a pharmacy and buy vitamins doesn't mean that they are safe for everyone. There can always be drug-vitamin interactions or disease-vitamin interactions depending on the individual. Also, not all vitamins are excreted unused if you take too much, as someone mentioned above. Some vitamins are fat soluble and stick around longer than water soluble vitamins (B, C, etc).

Don't listen to "experts" on here. Please consult someone with an MD or PharmD.

No need
I live on Space Food Sticks

They're from Pillsbury so you know they're good; although I noticed this newest box has an expiration date of 03/73 on it.
