Did the seller say where he got it? I know it was after the sale but I would ask any way.
Not much to go off of from the seller. He was probably low to mid 30s. His wife answered the door holding a baby. Big house. He said his dad bought it for him when he was a kid and he’d had it in a box since college.

I asked him if he had anything else for sale. He had a John Elway 8x10 but nothing else. Said he wasn’t a collector, just had some odds and ends from when he was younger.

*$350 gamble.

PSA/BGS/JSA all charge at least $250 for an MJ signature authentication.

JSA is $100 plus shipping for an MJ LOA.

Why such confidence for something so easily checked?

It looks like he wasn't aware what it was worth.

I'm confident this will not pass authentication. The "M" is pretty much flawless, and the overall angle is very consistent with real Jordan autos.

That being said, there are two areas that are not consistent with authentic exemplars of this style auto. First, the "ichael". Jordan creates this area by rubbing the pen back and forth horizontally. This autograph, along with the vast majority of fake jordan autos, use more vertical lines, which make them look like little waves. I've circled this area in blue.

You can also see the signer slowed down when creating the complex joints used to connect the "M" to "ichael" and "J" to "ordan". I've circled this two areas in red. Jordan is normally very fluid when making these joints, and the joints are also the most difficult for forgers to replicate perfectly.

As someone experience in collecting MJ UDA and in person autographs, I can say this is 100% fake MJ autograph. It was a high quality fake done by someone who was later arrested by FBI operations bullpen operation in the 90s.
here is a good website for your to spot these high quality fake autographs.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure the Sport's Fever on this COA is unaffiliated with the one linked above. I can't find anything linking them. The stores on the COA were local to Chicago, were owned by a game named Jeffrey Blatt, and went out of business in the late 90s.

Not trying to say that the autograph is real/fake in this. Plenty of commentary on that. I just don't think this is tied to the guys listed above.

Don't most COAs have matching stickers on the COA and item?

Otherwise someone could use the COA on a fake item and keep the authentic one.

I've done it a few times buying fakes but learned a ton along the way. The COA is just an unattached piece of paper (basically worthless). No need to spend a dime more to authenticate. At worst maybe a $10 quick opinion for piece of mind but I wouldn't even bother. Cut your losses and consider it a small donation to a young couple starting a family.

Hmmm...it's better than 95% of the other forgeries on ebay. Worth a try getting it authenticated. You never know.

In my experience, in any thread like this, people want to automatically cry "fake!". They just do. I don't know what it is, it just seems like an automatic reaction. They'd rather rain on your parade and then admit wrong afterwards.

That being said, no idea if it's real or not.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. Maybe it's because we all normally collect cards and there's some bias towards that? You know what you're getting (usually) with a card.

It's alright, though. Everyone is entitled to their thoughts. As long as people have good reason to back it up I think it's all valid commentary (e.g. rogermaris post above).

Appreciate everyone's insights! Still deciding whether it's worth sending or not. I feel very similar to rogermaris on this one. The 'M' and 'J' look really solid to me. The 'M' is usually the biggest giveaway on a fake Jordan auto. But I also agree that everything in between looks forced, especially the hooks on the M and J. Slow and deliberate.

I know it's not my $$$.. but please please just save it for something else. Looks good to most but zero chance it's real when seen by someone with more experience. No need to "gamble" more for a rejection letter. It's like slim to none. You're better off putting the money into a slot machine.

Save your authentication fee for a nice family meal. This is 100% fake. I have pretty solid experience with MJ in person autographs.

I'm not an auto expert but you look at the m and the j and you see areas where the guy stopped and paused a few times almost like he was thinking about how he was signing it next. Sometimes these pauses are because someone is signing something while they're talking to a teammate or verifier or fan but usually at least from when I watch steve grad it's where they say a guy is checking to make sure he's copying correctly.

I've seen this exact piece (or copies of) a few times before and it is absolutely, 100% fake.

Sorry I didn't see this one sooner, OP, but maybe you can still get your money back.

Or...
Some of us are quite knowledgeable on the topic and can spot a fake quite easily. ‘It looks kinda, sorta real’ isn’t a good enough answer. Any time I personally post it’s a fake I stand by my word 100% likewise if I post it’s real. This one is very obviously fake to the trained eye. I could tell within 2 seconds of looking at it. There are a lot of folks on this board that have extensive experience and know exactly what they are talking about

I am just guessing that because with the bigger names, there seems to be 50 fakes for every real one.
