I bought this 1996 Kobe Skybox Premium printing plate a while back on ebay to go along with the rookie. Anyone got any information on the authenticity of the printing plate?

Doesnt seem legit.
Plates are supposed to have text/print backwards.

Aren’t plates supposed to be mirror image of what’s on the actual card? This plate’s images show as if it were the actual card, printed. None of the text reads backwards as it should on a printing plate.

Printing plates only look like mirrors (backwards print, etc.) for chromium-style cards. That being said, I've never heard of printing plates made available for this product unless they somehow came out of the Fleer bankruptcy blowout.

Looks like one just sold on eBay a few days ago. The back is blank like this one.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1996-97-Sky....m46890.l49292 I can't imagine why anyone would want to create a printing plate unless they were counterfeiting, but worse case it's a novelty piece. |

Printing plates are a negative image bro, yours and the one you linked aren't authentic.

It's odds on favorite to be worth whatever a novelty item is valued at, but as a collectible it's looking not licensed nor authentic.
The true test could be to submit it to PSA or BGS and see if they acknowledge it. |

And yes, plates can be either the mirror image or image itself, depending on the type of card being printed. So the fact that it's not reversed is not a guarantee. For example: ![]() 2018-19 Upper Deck Compendium - [Base] - Printing Plate Magenta #875 - Andrei Svechnikov /1 Courtesy of COMC.com |
