How far into the 90s will this carry into??!! The '90 Fleer psa 10's have gone crazy the last 3 days hitting over $700?! Is this for real??

What are your thoughts on the' 88 all star card? Iconic image on that as well, do we see the 7-8 psa's take off on those as well?!

Consider that of all the graded Sticker #8, only 48% are graded PSA or BGS 8 or above....

And then if you dig deeper into those pop counts, you’ll see an EXTREMELY low pop count of BGS 9 and up...

Pristine - 0
BGS 10 - 0
PSA 10 - 119
BGS 9.5 - 32
BGS 9 - 223

PSA 9 - 1870

This tells me that the Sticker #8 is WAY more scarce than people think.........Considering it should have had approximately the same 3 per box pull rate at the #57.

This is interesting. I’ve always loved the stickers because they were so challenging to find in high-grade condition. I think you’re right on these though. While people won’t be in a hurry to value the sticker over the iconic base card, I think it’s still a good bet to spike more—especially the 9’s. Not sure what the base:sticker ratio would be, but if base 9’s keep moving and approach 6 figures, I don’t think it’s out of the question to see sticker 9’s (one at $18.6K at auction last night) considerably pick up the pace. How much more is anyone’s guess at this point.

I'm interested to see what this one does tonight because I have an 8.5 with the exact same subs:

Could be impacted by the seller having sold nothing in over a year. I'd be far more inclined to buy from you being the point.

Yeah, I'm sure if it was a PWCC auction or a high volume seller it would bring more, but I'm betting it will still go pretty high

Yep, the sticker is never going to overtake the iconic #57, but what’s it historically been....like 30% of the price of the #57? As more people see the scarcity in 9 and up, I see it being at least 50% or more compared to the #57....

I think people forget how crummy cards were cut back then also... A BGS 9.5 for a card then vs. a Prizm BGS 9.5 are a totally different ballgame. More value needs to be put on these higher graded cards because so many were cut horrible! As opposed to today, where technology is so much more advanced that MOST cards out of the pack would be considered a 9 from the get go...

And then the always looming question...I’m just wondering how long we’ll see the BGS vs PSA value gap.... I know it’s the trend right now for all the new collectors and modern cards, but when it comes to 86 Jordan’s, the pop counts are considerably lower with BGS.

1987 Fleer PSA 10 just sold for 45K. All thanks to the continuing rise of the 86 Fleer.

fwiw

psa population reports

#57 #59 #17

psa 10 316 200 537

psa 9 2,762 2,146 5,238

psa 8 7,725 5,653 4,872

psa 7 3,348 1.769 1,157

now, one could certainly argue that there are many raw #59's and #17's
to be graded, and that is true, no doubt.

BUT, I think this also brings into play the relative "short print" of the '87 set.

question... with about $10k to spend, would you recomend going with a big card (or 2), or spreading that out to maybe (10) $1k cards? thanks for opinions!!

Usually, the more you spend, the more elusive the card is....and that’s usually the name of the game. Pick up cards that aren’t easily attainable by everyone..... and then you have a card that “should” be valuable going forward.

I’ll give you a perfect example - I got back into collecting in 2013ish... I found out about Star cards and loved the low pop of them. Now the “semi” mistake I made was buying up lots of 8-9 graded cards... Sure, they’ve done well and have gained value, but looking back, with my budget, I should have just bought the #101...

It all depends. If you care about the “investment” aspect of it, absolutely find low pop cards that everyone is wanting. Go into MJ Facebook groups and you’ll see what’s in demand. Lots of rare 90’s inserts. If your an Instagram person, there are some crazy accounts with insane MJ cards that I had no idea even existed until I got on Instagram!

And of course, you can never go wrong with either of the 86 fleer cards....

This is another card I am happy I grabbed before things exploded...

Bought a PSA 9 for $5400 a little over a year ago and am still making payments on it... I did the Paypal Credit 24 months no interest. One of the best card purchases/investments I have ever made.

Not trying to push a narrative or question the validity but are all of these actually getting paid for? The run up has been so fast and so much, I don’t get who is buying these? Is it new collectors that are focusing solely on a tiny number of cards, like the 86 Fleer? Even up to like, 10 different sales I could see but what kind of money has been spent on PSA 8 - PSA 10’s the last 3 months? $10+ million? All spread out over different cards would mean there’s multiple hundreds of people dropping $25,000+. Who are those multiple hundreds of people? That’s what I can’t wrap my mind around.

I hear you but I think the hobby is getting bigger than we can imagine. People see this as an investment opportunity now and they're putting real money into it. People are probably taking money out of their brokerage accounts and putting it into this.

I can’t wrap my brain around it either, but you’ve got things like Mint10, all these startup projects for sportscard selling platforms, research and analytics subscription sites, former sneaker heads, and just a ton of money is being injected into cards.... now that’s all fantastic, but what’s the end game for these people? If it’s truly a long term mindset, I think all of this is great. But if this all centers around quick transactions, then this obviously isn’t going to be beneficial because the turnaround quick selling off after purchasing is what will take the prices right back down to what they were or lower because people will sell at whatever price simply to get out.....
