I'm sure it's been mentioned before but I'm struggling to locate the information. I'm trying to figure out if a card I bought on COMC and am now trying to resell with an asking price over $100 gets a one time $2 elite fee or if it's recurring or if it's a penny a month like more inexpensive listings after the initial fee. First card I've ever tried to sell over $50 and I want to make sure I understand the fees properly. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There are multiple different fees.

If you price a card above $100, if it was originally processed at a basic level (usually you'll see these with white backgrounds), then they will take it out of inventory, check it for flaws, scan it at a higher resolution (usually with a black background), and put it back into inventory with a different item number.

I'm not sure, but if you originally processed that card at the Elite ($1.20) level, I don't think they have to take it out of inventory again to charge you the $2. Also, if you purchased it at COMC auction, I believe the item has already been processed at that higher level so you shouldn't have to pay that one-time $2 fee again.

If you price a card at $50 or more, then you will pay an Enhanced Security Fee above and beyond the normal rent for the card. This is to pay for additional insurance and/or possibly to store it in a more secure area of the COMC warehouse. The Enhanced Security Fee is based on the selling price of the items - 1 cent per day per $1,000 in asking price. So your $100 card would get an Enhanced Security Fee of approximately 1 cent per 10 days. This is paid on the first day of each month, along with your other rent.

If you price a card above 75 cents (or $2.50 with an upgraded account), you will pay a storage fee of 1 cent per item on the first of the month.

So, if you were to take an item which was originally processed at Basic level and price it above $100, you will pay:

$2 one-time fee when the item is priced. They will take it out of inventory and return it a few days later with a different scan and ID number.

1 cent every 10 days in Enhanced Security Fee. This is calculated every day, but paid on the first day of the month. So, on the first day of the month, you will pay approximately 3 cents Enhanced Security Fee. Even if it sells on the 30th of the month, you will still pay 3 cents on the first day of the following month.

1 cent Storage Fee on the first of the month. But only if it is still in your inventory and being offered for sale at a price above your Free Storage Thresh Hold. So, if it sells on the 30th, you don't pay rent on the 1st.

Been working fine for me this morning on my computer (Edge browser). Made a nice flip yesterday which allowed me to basically trade a $50 card for a Hank Aaron Topps certified auto on COMC.

Edit: I got the timeout as well; so it's like a rolling brownout between last night and today. At least they don't run on Simple Auction Sites software...

When the site gets laggy, it's sometimes helpful to switch to a different browser.

Right now the site is laggy for me on Firefox, but works OK on Chrome.

Ok so maybe this has already been covered somewhere but for those of you who have big ComC ports, I was wondering if you have your ComC accounts listed in a will before you pass on? If not how are you planing to pass it on? Can it be done? What would happen to your account if you didn’t specify? I’m just curious.

This is exactly why this forum is so invaluable. Thanks for the fantastic and thorough answer.

Interesting - usually chrome is the first browser that stops working for me and I switch to Safari

I have recommended to them multiple times to have a beneficiary listing on accounts, but COMC hasn't implemented it yet. So if you have a will, put it in there so that there is a legal way to transfer to the correct heir(s). If not, I believe the port just sits there. I have found a few accounts that haven't had any action in over 5 years. Good chance the account was owned by someone who passed away.

Slight correction on this answer, since I thought the same and another poster mentioned it doesn't work that way currently.

If you just straight up reprice it, they charge $2 and do NOT yet go back and scan the card.

In order to get it re-scanned as Elite, you need to use the dropdown box after purchasing and select "Reprocess as Elite." Costs the same $2, but they do actually remove it from your account, rescan, and put it back in about a week later. I just did this on one of mine and it came in approx a week later.

As this goes against their "Ebay buyers like to have the Elite scans..." mantra, I emailed them and highly recommended they go back and re-scan all items that were priced as Elite but were not triggered for a better scan. Maybe it will get implemented, maybe it won't.

Thanks. And yes I would hope they add that kind of feature. That could be way too many cards on ComC that just get unclaimed.

Silly question here. Sold a couple items to a user on here. They said to ship to their comc.com account and gave me their user name. First time doing this. I use this format, correct?

COMC.com Mailboxes
C/O [buyer's COMC username]

Yes, that's how you send it.

Add: Recommend you use penny sleeves/toploaders/team bags (as necessary) and do NOT add any extra cards as fillers. COMC will charge your buyer's account $6 additional if you use 10 commons to pad the real cards with, because COMC doesn't know what the buyer bought.

Legit 50% chance that the site is down nowadays. It's so frustrating when I try and get on it all throughout the day and it just sits on the loading page for literal minutes before lagging out. How is it that after all these years the site is so ridiculously unreliable?

I'd bet there are ports that have been submitted and processed, but never priced. I remember dealing with one would-be seller who sent in a box of cards but refused to go to the website and set his prices.

He insisted we set the prices, as it was our "responsibility to sell the cards". He and I went back and forth for about 2 weeks and I was pretty sure, at one point, he was trolling me...he finally stopped emailing, but he never priced his cards. Not before I left, anyways...

I found some ports that only had cards submitted from 2012 and earlier, with prices way out of whack with what they would have been just a year or two later. Like $8 each for 1978 commons with currently 57 copies on COMC starting at 18 cents. Dormant.

I can't see any cards sitting in someone's inventory that aren't for sale. They don't show up on the website, except as "SOLD OUT" where I wouldn't have any idea where they are or even if they're still on site.
