I think, politically, he will go in.
There's no chance I would ever vote for him. I just don't see a HOF QB. I see a guy who was above average at times, but never great. We make excuses about Wilson, Marino, etc. not having an O-Line or a Defense. How in the WORLD do we explain away the Gates/Tomlinson/Merriman/Rivers Chargers teams never winning a ring? I mean, come on. Those teams were LOADED. Yes, all caps LOADED. He was average.

Eh I'm iffy on Matt Ryan and he's my QB, I don't think Rivers should get in. I do think though he had a strong legacy, he's just not a HOF QB, but we also have to accept that in a lot of cases the HOF is a Hall of Good, and Philip Rivers was a good QB. He was never truly great.

Wouldn't you want to see Jordan or Magic just one last time? Gretzky or Orr? Griffey or Maddux? Appreciate what we have...because tomorrow it will be gone.

Eason has a lot to prove, but he's an option. I still see the Colts going after a veteran like Stafford to stop-gap. I'm not opposed to seeing Wentz get re-united with Reich. I don't see any chance Watson gets traded inside the division, but that would be a dream to have him in Colts blue.

Bless his heart.
PS, I always thought Rivers was there with Seau, but Seau left in '03. |

Eason sucks
Every team “loves” their backup until they actually have to play him... especially 3rd through 5th round young guys Just bump that New England dude thread (I can’t even remember his name) before Cam That dude had like $200 Prizms. Solid move. Colts will be falling over themselves to try and get in on the Watson, Wentz, Darnold, Trubisky, Draft Pick bandwagon... depending on how crazy they want to go

Okay so based on what has been mentioned, everyone who got in (QB wise) won at least one SB or one All pro.
It’s an easy no for me. He was never apart of anything great and he never individually stood out. What’s there to like? A consistent career? I agree he was good but I can’t get over not winning one all pro. Like it means you were never regarded as the best. Even if it was a second all pro maybe you can make an argument.

No one likes to see Willie Mays falling down in the outfield. No one likes to see Bernard Hopkins literally knocked out of the ring. No one likes to see Edgerrin James averaging 2.7 ypc.

Not a HOF player. A stat compiler.
Anyone that followed his career closely knows of the frequent interceptions at the end of games. Just could not get the one chip that would have made him a HOF player in everyone's eyes. Will he get in? Probably. If Harold Baines got in the baseball HOF then I guess PR can get in. |

Namath and Griese were really really ordinary at best but were on teams that won a Super Bowl and are in the HOF.
Rivers 134-106 W-L, 63,440 yrd, 421 TD, 209 INT Namath 62-63-4 W-L, 27,663 yrd, 173 TD, 220 INT Griese 92-56 W-L, 25,092 yrd, 192 TD, 172 INT |

I forgot. Most people did. "Legend" and rivers just dont belong in the same sentence. Edit... I really can't say "most people forgot" because I dont know that for sure. I can only say I saw it happened and completely forgot about it.

Agreed. The man was a true game dog who refused to go out on anything but his shield. I loved watching him give everything he had on that field dating back to his ACC days against my Noles.

Comparing Rivers to HOF QB's who played in a different era makes no sense. Everybody knows Rivers was an above-average QB over a long period of time - that's his case for the HOF. But that's it. Like, literally, that's it. Statistics against QB's who played 20+ years ago don't matter. You need to compare them to statistics from other QB's who played during the same time period.
This is how skewed QB statistics are in today's game: John Kitna has more passing TD's than Bart Starr. Jay Cutler and Ryan Fitzpatrick have more passing yards than Steve Young. Matthew Stafford has more passing TD's than Joe Montana. Kerry Collins has more passing yards than Joe Montana. Ryan Tannehill has more passing TD's than Rodger Staubach. I could go on. The absurdity is never ending. Statistics mean nothing in today's NFL when put up against numbers from 30+ years ago. A current HOF candidate should be measured by their performance vs. others during your playing years + their credentials.

It's just unfortunate for him that he played at the same time as sure-fire first ballot guys like Manning, Brady, Rodgers and Brees. It's for this reason that there were no All Pros to go around. Those 4 guys won it 13 of his 17 years in the league. But alas, he's a QB without a ring and without (m)any accolades. He'll get in eventually, just like Frank Gore will and I think they're on par with one another relative to their position: longevity to compile stats. |

I don’t view Rivers as a HOFer.
Didn’t win a ring and in the shadow of better QBs the majority of his career. |
