I will give you the opposite scenario. Lets say a team is on their own 1 yard line and the defense causes a fumble that goes out the side of the endzone. Should it now not be a safety and instead placed back at the 1 yard line?

There are some different rules when it comes to the endzone versus the field of play. Why should this one scenario be an exception to all of the other rules?
Again, because Mahomes.

I’ve been watching the NFL for 20+ years. Never ever before today have I heard anyone complain about that being a touchback.

Same feelings here. He is not easy on the ears. Talks too fast and too much. I don't tune in to hear Romo.

It is kind of annoying that he calls the play ahead of time. It ruins the uncertainty of what might happen.

I love Romo in the booth...hes at the peak of his true calling. At least he knows what he’s talking about.

Guess I'm in the minority.

I love how he gives insight on the play before it develops.

I actually enjoy the forward-looking analysis. Any idiot can recap. It takes someone with football knowledge to call a play before it happens.

Why should the D get the ball back when the ball goes out of bounds and the D never possessed the ball? How does that make since?

How is that any different that the ball going out on the sideline. Should the D get the ball if they forced the fumble?

First time I've heard anyone say that. Never heard anyone that didn't love the way he can predict the calls.

The potential penalty and implications of it are causing people to focus on the touchback. I agree with you that in past it hasn't been a consideration. If he had dropped the ball on his own accord everyone would be laughing.

But the fact that Gene Steratore and all 5 guys in the halftime show said it was an obvious missed penalty...that's where the conversation should be. Browns will be the case study for a rule change.

The same could be said about our beloved Orel Hershiser...calls the pitches before the pitcher even knows he’s throwing that pitch.

You must live in a shell....and Mahomes is my favorite player.

It is discussed every time it happens. Stop playing the Mahomes card. It has nothing to do with why people are talking about it.

The ball went of bounds - just so happened to be in the end zone - it still went out of bounds.

Maybe you understand now.

I feel like you go for the 2 there instead of the PAT

If you get the PAT it’s still a 2 possession game
If you miss the 2 point it’s still a 2 possession game
If you get the 2 points it’s a 1 possession game (with another 2 point of course)

So the worst case it’s still a 2 possession game
