PSA won’t grade because they made a choice not to years ago and have never taken the time to learn what to look for. If the new regime changes course the Star will blow up. |

JordanCards.com: It is commonly reported that the 1984-85 Star Co set was reprinted by Star Co in the early 90’s. Is this true and if not which sets were reprinted, if any?
Steve Taft: No, this is NOT true! Now that we know about the 1997 Shop at Home scandal, I think if the owner of Star could have made exact duplicates of his cards, he might have given it a try. Problem is, I don’t think it’s possible to match the cutting characteristics of the original cards, plus, the original printers were no longer in business.

Levine didn't reprint Star Co cards. Just kept the unsold product and auctioned off in the 90's to one buyer (that we know of). What if.. Fleer kept cases of unsold from 1986 and auctioned them off five years later?

CG1980 is 100% correct. It's sad that there is so much "fake news" out there about the Star 101 XRC. If not for that it would probably be worth 5-10x what it already is. Only 3000 original copies of the GOAT's true rookie card and who knows how many have actually survived intact. Eventually people will recognize how undervalued it is relative to the Fleer.

So what distinguishes a real copy from a fake?

Beckett 9.5 with minimum sub grades is worth no more than PSA 9 since that’s the highest grade it would cross to.

I need to pick up a Jordan rookie in 2021. Granted, I won't be able to afford anything higher than maybe a PSA 4, but I need to get one before I really get priced out. I know a guy that has a BGS 2.5 for sale right now for $1,100 but the surface grade is 1.5 because it was folded in half at some point and has stains on the back.

I took a 5 month break and my jaw dropped when I saw the current prices!
I remembered a time in the late 80s when the 84 xrc was valued quite a bit more than the 86. I'm lucky to have both but always personally valued the xrc more.

After I posted that I'm sitting here seriously thinking about it. I paid off all my student loans this year and haven't rewarded myself at all.

After you have that... if you have enough to sell to buy the 2.5... I'd do it. |

See, I have this problem where I'll think about buying something but can't bring myself to spend the money. It happens all the time and not just with cards. I don't even know where it comes from.

I’ve been lucky enough to own a 52 mantle 311 and a few 86 fleer 57. Both have that childhood excitement huge smile inducing impact at first sight. It may be that I’m a child of the 90s (Chicago child of the 90s) but dare I say the fleer 57 brings a giddiness that is bigger than any other card. This heat and recognition is just starting. Get in now if you haven’t can’t stress this enough. Whatever the grade just get in!
