My question is how does Panini get away with giving packs? The back of the redemption states "I understand that Panini America, Inc. will send me a comparable card in its place if the specified card is not available to ship within 4 months"

Some of the packs have great cards but some have cards that aren't comparable to the specified Kobe autos

i believe there is an ongoing class action lawsuit. No idea of the potential for success.

Impeccable relases (Victory, Immortal Ink, Inedelible, Canvas Creations etc) over 200.



Contenders are not numbered but they’ve always been SP. Just basing it on graded cards on BGS and PSA. They were rumored to be a case hit (Talking about the previous set released in the Contenders boxes) which honestly adds up. You rarely see some cards from this set pop on Ebay.

Is there proof of the of the other varieties? It makes sense, but I haven't seen the /35, /10, /1 surface yet. That's a crazy number of auto's Panini was sitting on in any case!

/35 is the orange pulsars and there are some on ebay. The /10 is the checkered gold and some were sent as replacement for impeccable stainless steel /10 auto. Have not seen the 1/1 yet

/10 Gold was shared on IG, it was encased so I guess it does exist.

Interesting so about 200 impeccable autos, 200 in-flights, and maybe 200 contender extension: 21 cards (highest i've seen is #38) x print run of 10?

I've not seen a #38 yet. I think 34 is the highest (2003 All Star, still on EBAY)

Looks like they released 17 from Contenders from this redemption which aligns with what shake said before (Cards # 1-17 were released from the boxes)

I think you are right actually. I just checked my manual list I was putting together and #34 is the highest. Ok, so another 17, which makes more sense keeping it multiples of 17.

Yeah, really hard to put a number on the Contenders. I’ve been following that series even before this redemption and some cards do pop more than other, actually out of the previous 17, I’ve only seen maybe 12 tributes pop on Ebay.
His draft day contenders for one has been so elusive.

Afaik, the ones I’ve seen are all #8.


It’s supposed to be a long series based on how they seem to pay tribute to not only his big accomplishments but also on some random highlights like a triple double against the Clippers etc.

Sad, it appears to be an epic set but we’ll never get to see it completed and worst, Kobe fans are going to be priced out considering $4-5k for each card (raw at that) seems to be the norm for these.

Well, what might be worse than the worst is for those having gathered the first 17 cards, thinking that the set is completed......only to find out now that there are more, and are now way more expensive than before.

IF I have enough budget, I will likely only get 1 or 2 of them and call it a day, but that is a big if.

Hey man, at least they got 17 from this set, a task that is difficult to complete in the first place even when they were just selling for just $1000 back in April.


I agree with you though, even when they were somewhat affordable, I passed on most. I was hoping some of his more iconic tribute card would pop on Ebay but they never did. I follow plenty die hard Kobe collectors and it’s not on their pages either. Just need 2-3 more and I fear they are the hardest to find especially NOW.

It could also depend on the variety of the contenders pose as some of these can be quite popular especially the championships

Not all Kobe contenders auto are equal. The championship tributes gets snagged immediately. I think the highest contenders sold was a PSA 10 and it was his 1st championship tribute, the last 2 Championship from this redemption are going for $7,000 raw.

Just received two of my redemptions. I had two 35 2018-19 optic contenders Kobe veteran ticket autos. Received two of the inflight /35 orange pulsar. Pretty pleased to say the least so far. I was trying to upload the photo of them via my iPhone to this forum but having trouble because of file size?

Packs have sold for 3k, 3.1k, 2.8k, 2.8k, and 2.8k from what I have seen. In some cases, receiving the pack might be more valuable than the Kobe auto on the secondary market. Some of the lower-end Kobe auto's would probably fetch around 1.3-1.5k.

If you are not getting an on card Auto, you are hoping to get a pack to flip then you can buy a cheaper Kobe and have cash. Don't know why people were complaining about packs in this market.
