Clemente AP is still up. That one feels like it might last an hour. If it's still up at 1 pm I'll get one.

I need help with Fucci’s Willie. I am drawing a blank on the significance of the background and font used in his last name.

Interesting. The shadow/black space near the name plate doesn't bother me at all, but then again, I'm only looking at scans and not the actual card. While, on the other hand, I'm deducting points from both Gooden and Willie for being too dark in general.

The Clemente is a snoozer.

We knew the Mattingly would be awesome, which it is.

The Mays is interesting. I don't know the significance of the colors, either, but it looks good to me. I tend to like the Fucci's where you can imagine the actual face looking at you--Gooden, Gibson. Today's Mays is that type. Easy buy. And as I refresh, looks like I'm not getting the Vides Clemente AP. Darn!

The Beck Mattingly is up there with my favorites for the artist. Great close to the set for him.

I think he went too much graph paper on the Mattingly.

And I still don't know the significance of the checkered flags.

Its in the lower half of my Beck rankings. (I'm a tough grader!)

Has it been confirmed that each artist gets at most one foil? I'd like to see Rickey have a foil but DonC and OMA have already done theirs.

I think the background is just the colors of the original card (purple from the original background, black from the hat, orange from the Giants logo) scrambled? I don't think there's any more significance than that. He did something similar on his Frank Thomas card.

I like the weathered look of it. It works well for 1952 Topps, and it's retro yet modern! As a print, it would match well with stylish midcentury modern furniture, for those who have soured on the Matt Taylor Jackie.

I agree, I liked this one more when I saw the really blown-up image a few days ago. It's gone from hot to hot mess.

The Frank, Jackie, and now Willie have all read as tapestry backgrounds. Whether that's true or not, that's the way I look at and enoy them. This fits in nicely with those two for me. The Willie is probably my favorite of the 3. I like this a lot.

I think the checkered flags are in reference to his growing up in Indiana, plus they kind of go with the graph paper.

In other news, that Siff Jackie stares up at me and I hear a deep, comic book villain voice sternly telling me, "If you don't buy me, you'll be sorry!!"

Just looks/reads sloppy. I get the left folds in the pant,a nd the shadow follows those, but the rest of the shadow has such a clean line that that leg, and then the continuation of it below bother me. Makes it look unfinished in an unpleasant way to my eye. I like the stained glass, reminds me of his stained glass/color blocked blobs, but I haven't really loved it in either card form all that much.

I'm not big on EfDots set cards (even though I'm a big fan of his art in general), but I enjoy seeing his journey through them; really seemed like he was figuring out what he wanted them to be as he went along, so you kind of see an evolution of an artist's vision. I think his set is unique in that way, and that makes it strong maybe in a different, and unexpected way.

Haha you really are! I don't know that I can name 10 Beck cards I like better. 3-4, sure. I'd put it above his Trout, which is Beck's median line for me.

Mattingly is from Evansville, Indiana.

That is closer to St.Louis and Louisville than it is to Indianapolis.

Why not use the Gateway Arch or a Churchill Downs reference?

Do we know if there's any significance at all to most of Fucci's stuff (I know there are for some)? Like was there an actual significance or reason for the beast behind Brett? lol

I prefer Beck's Rivera, Williams, Thomas, Henderson, Ichiro, Gibson, Ripken, Brett, Gooden, Griffey, Ryan and probably Mays.

Will need to see his Gwynn in hand to make the call on that one.
