I actually just take them with my iPhone XR. I put the card in a one touch and use a card box as the background on my kitchen table. Afterwards, I upload it to Instagram to brighten up the photo (that is the key: increase the brightness), center the card, then add slight contrast for detail.

Here is my simple kitchen set up:

(don’t mind my son’s dinosaur card used in this photo.. lol)

I hope that helps!

Thank you for the info. The part I was missing is uploading to IG and using the brightness and contrast feature.

No problem at all!

On a side note: I still find it cool to see this thread of mine pop up from time to time because it’s over a year old. Haha.

I would say that is arguably Trout’s most desired variation card. The photo on that card is just breathtaking.

Didnt even see any sold ones on EBAY unless I’m just not doing the search right. Any idea what it goes for when it does come up?

If I remember correctly, a raw copy sold for almost $1k a while back? But Trout cards have been going up, so I’m not sure what it would sell for today. If my memory serves me right, I think one of the board members here won it and got it graded afterwards? I think it got a BGS 9.5?

That 2016 Pointing Bat SSP is my favorite photo used on a Trout card. Amazing collection.

I would say that I’ve seen more of the “pointing bat” than the “2014 TC variation” pop on eBay.. BUT, the “pointing bat” is still pretty rare. That is just my assessment.

Thanks! I’m sure there will be a lot of them on eBay. The first ones listed on eBay are usually (almost always) overpriced.

They always seem to come in bunches. Just recently, a few 2014 TC variations have popped on eBay while no “pointing bat” cards have surfaced. Before that, the 2014 TC had a very long drought.

Overall, since I’ve been collecting Trout variation cards, I’ve seen slightly more of the “pointing bat” compared to the 2014 TC.. not by much though. But that is just my assessment.

Even when I started this thread, on the first page, a board member talked about the 2014 TC being one of the tougher variations to obtain:
