Here's the email in full about the Trout companions. I haven't even looked at mine close enough to see if there are issues with it, but it's really cool that she's replacing them all.

Quote:
Hi everyone

We’ve gotten some complaints about the Trout companion card we produced and sent out and wanted to give some updates. Not going to give excuses and wanted to give some clarity on the situation and a solution we’ve come up with. I understand the product reflects upon us and we don’t take your support and patience for granted. We hear you guys whether you’ve reached out via email or discord, etc.

We’ve terminated our production with our printer and decided to go back to the standard card stock we initially planned to produce with another printer. We have them printed and in process of getting packed. For the Trout companion card, you can keep the initial companion card we sent out and in the next 2 weeks, we’ll be shipping out the standard Trout companion card to you, no charge. If you are one of our customers who haven’t received their initial order of companion cards yet, we will be shipping out both editions of the companion card out together by the end of the week.

If you’ve sent back your companion card for a replacement, we’ll ship the original back with the new standard companion card enclosed.

We are still aiming to get companion card orders for the Mets, Clementes and Yankees out this and early next week.

We really appreciate you working with us with our first go at card production and all the roadblocks that have come with it.
edit: I checked my copy and the layers are definitely peeling on three of the four corners. Honestly, it looks fine from the front in the one-touch.

Tyson, you say “official cards” as if the other artists’ companions aren’t official, when in reality they are exactly that.

You mean officially licensed by either the NBA and/or it’s Players Association, correct?

Not at all, far from it. unless they are they all officially licensed by the athlete the companion card is of, many use the athletes name for the companion without it being licensed or securing a deal for their likeness. Can't call that official, hence why it's called a companion.

Most companions I own don’t have the players likeness or name on them anyway.

Maybe we are talking about two different things.

When Mr. Cartoon makes a companion card, that card is not only “official”, (it is officially made and endorsed by the artist himself), it also relates exactly to one of his Topps Project 2020 cards. It’s even relevant to this very thread.

The same can be said for King Saladeen’s Money Bear companion cards. I would imagine Saladeen owns the rights to Money Bear. Again, his companions are “official” and relevant to P2020 as they go with specific P2020 cards.

Efdot is known for his Blob figures. His companions are official and relevant.

Ermsy might be pushing the envelope slightly, but maybe not too. His companions might be the most popular of all.

I believe you’re talking about “officially licensed” by the NBA and/or the NBAPA...or maybe just licensed by the specific player on the card?

In either case, this is the “official” Project 2020 BASEBALL thread specifically created for all things P2020. I’m not sure your non-P2020, basketball cards belong in this thread. Though I don’t mind at all, (I too like basketball cards). I’m just pointing it out since it feels like you’re trying to down play the very relevant companion cards from other artists that many of us in this thread actually truly enjoy.

actually was just correcting people that put my cards into the "companion card" field because they're not companion cards, just like companion cards aren't project 2020 cards. you do realize I'm replying to comments, I don't control what others put int his thread....

Beck did start a thread in the Basketball section, if people want to discuss them more in-depth. It's on page 35.

Understood. When you used the word “official” to differentiate your cards from other artists’ cards, I was confused since other artists cards are official as well.

It’s true they aren’t P2020 cards, but many of them directly relate to specific P2020 cards, and some of them are very well done and enjoyed by many.

I do...along with some self-promotion, of which I see nothing wrong with in terms of my enjoyment in this thread and wanting to gather valuable information.

I’m a fan of yours. I collect your cards, and have purchased several directly from your site. I wish you the very best as you’re doing a great job thus far.

What is the relevance of the Money Bear to P2020? Other than it is a "character" created by an artist who has cards in P2020. The "character" itself has no connection to P2020.

VERY NOVICE QUESTION but looking for some help.

When searching for PSA 10s of the original P2020 rookie cards, I've found that not all PSA 10s are made equal. Some are slightly off centered or duller than others.

Is it basically in the eye of the beholder at that point? Is there any resource to go to learn more about valuation and price of these?

Thanks.

You are correct Ryan. I've noticed even more inconsistency with the BGS grading. I've seen some cards with centering Sub-grades of 9 and 9.5 that are WAY off center. Some of the cards from Vides and Naturel and Fucci are very difficult to grade with their borders. But even the ones like Shore and OMA that are obvious still seem to be all over the place as far as the centering grade.

Buy the card... Not the grade. Grading is subjective
