My friend bought that card. He bought 16 Mahomes cards last night and dropped 150k. Most of that was on this one and the Panini Flawless emerald one that sold for 35k last night. Told him he’s got BALLS paying this much for an ungraded card!

Check how many times that card has been listed and sold raw with PWCC since 2017. Tells me it won’t grade well or has been tried multiple times and either cracked out or not graded at all.

It shouldn't be a surprise....

the description said the card has surface and corner issues.

People just want to get in on this card.

Well. They want to get in. And then they promptly got out? On this specific one. Just seems fishy ya know.

Who knows.

My guess is that the damage wasn't detailed in previous listings. And without looking at the prior sales, I'm also guessing that the sales price went up each time it sold. So maybe it's a situation where once someone got it in hand and saw the issues, they decided to take profit instead of living with a damaged card.

Either way, we now have a bit of more recent sales history on the /99 of a raw, 1 color copy with edge issues and a streaky auto going for $40k, and this 3 color with a nice auto and surface and corner damage going for $56k.

If I had to pick up either of the two mentioned above, I would have gone with the 3 color damaged for sure. Heck, I actually bid on it just in case, although my bid wasn't even close to what ended up taking it home.

#59/99 NT RPA prior completed (Paid) Sales-

Jan 24th 2019: $5600
Apr 21st 2019: $7400
Jul 28th 2019: $7634

Now, looking at Beckett database for grades lower than 8.5 (assuming it was not sent as minimum grade)

Serial #11334418 graded on May 9th 2019 with a surface grade of 7, overall grade of 7.5. There is a chance #59/99 could be this one (purchased on Apr 21st and graded on May 9th). Could have been cracked and sold raw on Jul 28th.

Serial #11757844 graded on Mar 20th 2020 with a surface grade of 7, overall grade of 7.0. This seems unlikely given the long gap between Jul 28th 2019 and Mar 20th 2020

If I were to make a guess, #59/99 should grade 7 or above.

Totally agree. I wouldn't buy it. I only buy graded high end cards.

Wow, I'm a little late to the party but looking at some PWCC prices last night for Mahomes and across the board (other than the aforementioned NT RPA) very soft prices. Really surprised by almost everything. Between now and Christmas really is a bad time to sell, and a great time to buy. With the election and holidays coming up, generally if you have money to spend this is an incredible buying opportunity coming up.

Several cards I thought went for way under including several NT (Future /25 going for PSA 9? That was 5 or 6k a while back) and even cards like Elite Series PSA 10 going for $330 (I sold one for $610 a few weeks ago). Purple Optic /50 PSA 10 for $4250? Insane. Bronze PSA 10 Optic $1950. Wow.

I've been in the game a long time. If you're a buyer, keep your eyes peeled.

Yeah I was shocked at the prices on some of the lower end stuff. I'm definitely not doing any auctions for a while. Had a PSA 10 R&S go for $300 yesterday (sold one a week ago for $419). 2018 have really taken a hit also. I'm sure they'll all rebound but definitely a buyers market for lower end products - ie. R&S, Elite, Crown, etc.

Wow, didn't see the $300. Brutal. I am nervous for my Light Blue Pristine 10 at auction. Last one got $10,500 before the huge run up on cards, so I thought mine would be worth more but now I'll be lucky to get 7k. Had to sell because I picked up a monster (not Mahomes) but not good timing on my part.

Anyone who has been around for a while knows this is how it goes.

Just wanted to give an update. Fortunately, my White Sparkle PSA 10 was not paid and PWCC wanted to relist in current auction. It took me almost a week of back and forth emails to finally convince them to place it in my vault. It is their policy to relist unpaid cards in the next auction and they made a one time for exception for me since it is my first time. I was glad with the results on other cards that were paid. 2017 Pizm White Sparkle PSA 10 and 2017 Encased Rookie Dual Swatch Signature BGS 9.5 were not paid and both are going into my vault for now.

Sucks when shill bidding doesn't work in your favor

Going to see a LOT more relists on PWCC with their new private bidding.

Do you guys suggest selling during the season or after? I have a 2017 Panini Optic Patrick Mahomes The Rookies Blue PSA 9 that Im kicking around selling, or trading, or keeping I dont know. But if I sell or trade, for any card not just this one, is it best to do it during season or after or just before etc.

It is 100% dependent on your circumstances. Whether you need the money now or later or what you want to do with it. Generally, for veterans and/or superstars there is very little movement during the season, unless that player is going absolutely crazy (like their team is 11-0 and he has 35 TDs and 1 INT). As mentioned previously, November/December are the worst time to sell. People are spending on Christmas presents, not cards.

About a week before the playoffs there is hype, especially if a team is looking good. Then during the playoffs if the team is still winning they go up a little more. Generally there is a lull even during the super bowl, and then there is super bowl hangover, and then things pick up again as the next year follows.

TL;DR - if you're absolutely looking to sell I'd want to wait until at least January IMHO. But with a card like that, you're maybe talking a few hundred bucks swing at the most so probably not the end of the world either way.

Well, I have a higher direct offer of 18K recently on my white sparkle already that I did not take. I would have received $15600 after PWCC commission if it was paid for.

Thanks. Makes a lot more sense now. My luck with Ebay selling has been bad. I listed a card (baseball) and was the cheapest that I could see for BIN, no one offered even a bit lower and then suddenly the same card I had listed started to drop significantly.

I guess I'll have to lurk around more and pay attention better. I have never sold a card since I started collecting back in the early 80s and figured I'd try to sell to support my PC a bit. I have a lot to learn to say the least

You will take your lumps for sure. Best way to learn. I've got plenty of "war" stories to share lol. Many thousands of dollars lost

Oh yeah! I had a $5500 offer on 2017 Encased Rookie Dual Swatch Signature BGS 9.5 few months ago and I did not take it. It sold for $3000 in PWCC auction. Moral of the story is auctions are gamble. It is better not to do auctions if you do not need the money unless it is a rare and highly sought after card.

PWCC is using new private bidding feature similar to Goldin and Heritage on high end cards. The bidders have to verify before they can place bids especially on auctions with special bidding rules.

I think we all like the idea of auctions because we dream/hope that there will be a bidding war between two people and auctions are especially appealing when you don't know the value of a card. In my 10 years of doing this, there are absolutely times when I have been stunned by an auction price in a good way. Cards selling for significantly more than I thought. I have also had many cards where I had a BIN sitting forever with no takers or even offers, and then I auction them off and they get more than the BIN/Best offer I had it for sale at.

However, I would say 70% or more of the time, I am disappointed by an auction price. Everyone has different buying strategies. Some people only buy at auction, others only buy at BIN/Best offer. Sometimes it's just luck.

I still feel like you getting $27,500 for the Bronze Stars PSA 10 was a giant victory, even now.

You win some, you lose some. Or something like that.

I rarely do auctions myself. Most of the times I do BIN/BO and patiently wait until I get my ask price. I have had best results with that option and my cards have consistently sold for more than what I was looking for. Prizm Bronze Stars is one such example. I have sent a bunch a cards to PWCC couple of times in the past because I wanted to consolidate some of my low end and was lazy to list them myself. As you said, all it takes is two bidders/collectors who are chasing a particular card to get best auction results. However, there is a chance that one of those two collectors might miss the auction completely. It has happened to all of us at some point where we have missed out on a card that we have been chasing and said we would have paid more than the sale price if we had bid on it.
