Default Why am I not getting replies from members

I’m new. I’m inexperienced. Yes to both - but people in this community should understand that they started off as a novice too! This sort of esoteric behaviour is not appealing where we are supposed to be built of a community with a common interest in basketball collecting and this is not the impression I am receiving!

A bunch of the members here are grumpy old men that believe any newcomer is here to “ruin” their hobby.

Don’t let it bother you.

It’s sad because from a business standpoint, they’re losing out. I ask a price and they don’t reply, had they entertained negotiations they might’ve realized that my purchasing power is higher than others. Sucks for them!

So just looking at your previous posts it seems like you are miffed by a non-reply on a high end trade lot possibly?

Unfortunately most members on here are not going to trade with a new member. It has nothing to do with you of course. It's just one of those "been burned once" scenarios. You should be able to understand that stance especially on high end items.

I would also say that creating threads like this one will not help your cause as well. Just my advice. Welcome to the forum.

I sincerely appreciate your time and response - which was very informative. You’re right in might tarnish my reputation, or it could increase my credibility as someone who is transparent about their feelings and maybe is worth a shot at doing business with. Moreover it might help other newcomers who feel the same way. Either way thank you so much for your reply!

Also , looking at your posts , you’ve been posting in stale threads where prices are no longer valid nor are the cards likely available.

And some members like rackyjobinson is notorious for not responding and rarely moves his higher end Lukas , etc. He just pops in from time to time with his new $30k Lukas , but rarely trades.

Stick around, but don’t take too much offense if collectors don’t respond, especially on old threads. Some on here do have card shops and this is part of their business, but for many it’s a hobby and we have our jobs and families to deal with too.

It was ONE time haha! And it was because I got so excited to see a green pulsar doncic that I missed the date! ONE time! Haha. But I’m all seriousness, you’re absolutely right, it was a mistake on my part. Thanks for the advice I will stick around. Any advice for doing trades? What’s the safest way to do it? What should I avoid?

If you have an ebay account with feedback, it may be helpful to link it to your profile here as well. Without iTrader feedback and being new, it scares away a lot of sellers. It takes time to understand the etiquette here of selling/buying cards and some people here don't want to deal with the possibility of being scammed. You have to remember that with Paypal, the buyer has the upper hand with returns/refunds. I will always buy from sellers on ebay with no feedback because I know that I am safe with their rules. However, when I sell I avoid buyers with no feedback because the risk is too high for me.

My advice is to be an active member of this community and start with small purchases or sales to build up your feedback and reputation. Would you sell a $600 to a new member without any feedback when the buyer could simply switch the card or state they received the wrong card in the mail? I am not suggesting that you would do this at all, but this has happened to many people here.

It's nothing against you but there's been an overwhelming number of new members asking the same types of questions, all of which ultimately leads to how can they profit off of the hobby. That is fine if that is their goal but most expect to be spoon fed that information. Most all questions can be answered with a little research and you'd have to provide some credibility before doing any high ends deals here based on my time of hobby boards.

We all started out with 0 ratings at one point:

If you are trading: With 0 rating, you are likely not going to have any luck unless you send your card first, wait til your trade partner gets it, then he will send your card. This is more true the higher the value of the card. If that is not acceptable to you then a) don't trade, b) seek a 3rd party to help where you each send cards and he then forwards to you. Might again be tough since you are new and don't have any trusted network here, or c) start small where its less likely people are going to worry about a 0 rating guy.

If you are buying: Know that people are always wary of the ebay buyer or blowout buyer who has 0 feedback and suddenly jumps into the high end market. Generally speaking most people who are buying and can afford high $$ cards have been around the block, they are not 0 feedback guys. Now, you could be completely upstanding, but I'm just telling you how it's perceived by the community who by in large has reason to be skeptical of newbies waving cash w/o clout. Again, you may have to start out smaller.

If you have an ebay account, providing links to that could help people get comfortable. If you have vouches or deals you have done on FB groups and can direct people there, that may help.

But coming in with 0 rep and trying to trade/buy high $ cards (as it seems you have done looking at your posts), is going to raise an eyebrow.

I think the way to go for a new member with 0 feedback would be start with lower end deals to build rep/credibility.
