Default Fernando Tatis Jr Question

Just bought this Tatis 1st Bowman refractor. Card comes in the mail today and I see a small 1inch print line under the four in the resume. Wanted to see if anyone could offer insight on whether I should try to grade it or just send it back
Thanks

Send it back? Seller never said it was gem mint. If you want gem mint buy a graded card. Not everything raw is gem mint.

I think it's worth grading if you think you can at least get a 9.
If you get 10, it goes for triple/quadruple the price, basis the comps I've seen before.

As for return...
You bought the card raw, and shouldn't return for such minor defect (at least basis what I can/cannot see).

Buying raw cards online comes w/ it's potential issues. If you want a slabbed 10, you should just buy that instead. You've probably now been blocked by several members here for thinking about returning it.

He listed as "like new." I'm not sure if you're new to this or not but this is the risk you take when you purchase cards raw. Do not expect 10's, I would only send back if there was a major non-noticeable flaw. This is minor.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt unlike others in this thread and assume your new to the hobby.

This is why I try to grade everything, though it's admittedly getting harder with the turnaround times.

OP - you should consider getting a raw card in gem mint condition as a privileged bonus. I'll admit it's disappointing to open a package and get a card with a flaw on it, but as long as it's in near mint condition range, unless otherwise stated, that's the cost of doing business.

Edit - Here's your reference for near mint condition: https://www.psacard.com/resources/gradingstandards

You keep it. Print lines, minor whiting on corners, centering arent sellers fault. It is the norm to assume cards are at least nrmt-mt (8) when buying raw. Expecting gem mint, like other users said above, and then returning when it isnt gem in your opinion is a sure way to get everyone to not want to deal with you.

His feedback is 2135 on ebay. Someone who has bought and sold that much should know the answer to that question.

I just got into collecting cards from buying and selling. Don’t know what the fuss is. Whenever I sell cards I mention issues minor or major. Not blaming seller just was upset to spend 800 on a card and see a scratch. I get it’s not a huge scratch which is why I asked what to do.

I'm not going to lie. I've bought raw cards including modern cards that have graded PSA 5, 6, 7, 8, 8.5, 9 and 10. That's the risk you take.

A print line is not a scratch, it is a print line.

Blocked, thank you!

This. I bought a silver zion mosaic thinking it would be perfect and it came back a 9. I've bought cards that have come back 9.5's and PSA 10's.

If you want an exact card in a BGS 9.5 or higher, my suggestion is straight from pack, to sleeve, to card saver, to grading company of choice.

Buying off of ebay, and expecting a Gem Mint Card doesnt make sense. I learned this the hard way, when I had to eat about 300-400 bucks on my Zion. These things happen. Learn and Move Forward. Keep the Card.

With that Scratch Id keep it raw. Has a shot at a 9, but not worth slabbing at an 8.

same i was thinking... in the past I normally saw like-to-like non-auto sell for 1-2% the price of an auto... so does this mean his auto card is $80,000???

I assumed he missed the decimal, and meant $8.00.

If there's a scratch in the card and the seller did not disclose it I would return it. A scratch is different than a print line. You need to disclose a scratch (you should be disclosing print lines but this board is full of lazy sellers so I won't get into that today).

Arthur

ETA: Just because you're buying raw doesn't mean the seller gets to pass along damaged cards that he knows won't be detectable in his crappy cell phone pic. Sellers have a responsibility to disclose easily detectable flaws. I emphasize the "easily detectable." If you can look over a card with the naked eye and in ten seconds see the flaw, it should be disclosed. No one is asking anyone to break out a loupe or magnifying glass. Naked eye, ten seconds, disclose it.

All of you guys blocking him are missing out on having the opportunity to have someone buy your raw card and try to capitalize on the benefit of grading. If they find a flaw it's YOU'RE fault regardless of your description. They handle the card, send it back, it's all on your dime! I think it's fun. Ebay has set it up so they can do this with impunity! Join in the fun!!!! Woooooo!!! (One more buyer like this from becoming a serial murderer)

Whoever bought these should return them if they didn't grade PSA 10s

I will be happy to miss out on "opportunities" like this.
