Self described racist institutions should not receive Federal funding. We need to get rid of white supremacy in all it's forms, and I think I have the support of the entire forum on this.

We can do this people.

If Ben Shapiro is the "best of the party," why does the RNC continue to prop up dunces like Charlie Kirk?

I can assure you it's not impossible.
I do not believe it to be impossible at all. I see our country as an extension of our personal selves - constantly striving to be better and make a positive impact on the world.

I dislike the idea of "American exceptionalism." I dislike the idea of believing we are better than anyone else simply based upon the fact we were born where we were. It makes us no better than the Kardashians.

I think they'll teach the 7 year olds that after gender studies. And lunch.

It seems shortsighted from my vantage point. If Republicanism is increasingly being depicted as anti-intellectual, Shapiro is a counterpoint to that narrative whereas Kirk fits right in line with all the wrong stereotypes of neoconservativism. My opinion only.

Ideologically I'm clearly more leftist (despite the bastardization of the word), but would much rather see people like Ben Shapiro as focal points of the republican party moving forward.

Hey Trump started the modern day Hitler Youth, comical joke. What is it, teach children to kiss the ring like they do in North Korea.

I hate to break it to you, but all US history is designed to shape who you are in relation to the state.

Whether that's 1950's Cold War consensus-era textbooks.
---The story of the US as a nation has been expanding freedom and democracy outwards to other people and citizens should do their part to support the enterprise.

Whether that's 1990's Post-Cold War/Neo-Liberalism Triumphant "melting pot" textbooks.
---The story of the US as a nation has been expanding freedom and democracy inwards to its own people and citizens should do their part to support the enterprise.

Whether that's 2010's Globalization V. Identity Politics think pieces and tweets.
---The US as a nation has engaged in nothing but genocide, colonialism, and slavery and citizens should do their part to oppose the enterprise.

We always take for granted that our identity as a citizen is 100% constructed.

All identities of which are now viewed as simultaneously both patriotic & unpatriotic depending on who you're talking to.

It’s been fascinating to watch Yahoo evolve from a generic search engine... the one I used as a kid... into a basic level news site with fantasy sports and a search function... into a C-level op ed site that panders to liberal ideas and liberal thinking. Everything ever written on that site would get eviscerated in the comments. Now they have no comments as a way to silence people who don’t tolerate the garbage they put out.

Impossible? No. I still think America is the greatest country on earth but I also think the majority of America would rather forget its past than atone for it or own up to it.

I also think it’s silly to try and hold people responsible today for things their ancestors may have done hundreds of years ago. I do know trying to make people feel guilt over something they personally had no control control over isn’t going to help.

I also know there are people alive right now that couldn’t even eat in the same restaurant as me in their lifetime so to pretend like this country is perfect or that someone’s not a patriot for questioning that history is just as unhelpful.

You seem to contradict yourself here, Trixie. Is it OK to forget the past, or are there aspects of it for which atonement of some kind would be appropriate?

I have honestly never heard a liberal reference Yahoo as a news source and considered the company defunct until hearing otherwise from conservatives in this thread.
I'm not really going anywhere with this beyond that I find it interesting.

For reference, I consider MSNBC & NYT the two most stereotypical "liberal" news sources.

Ah yes, we should instead teach revisionist history like the 1619 project. Already being taught in our schools.

Yahoo is terrible. It’s like People.com meets liberal news, done in the worst way possible. But it wasn’t always. CNN, MSNBC.. just about any mainstream liberal news source is 100x better. Conservative news is garbage too, but you have to actually dig to find a conservative news site on par with Yahoo. Yahoo was once the king of search engines.

I really can’t stand any of it, anyway. This thread is my news source, as awful as that is. And from there I just use evidence and data to try to get to the truth, whatever that may be.

When did the U.S not teach revisionist history in school?

I definitely believe you in Yahoo being a trash news site. I guess I'm just curious why it gets referenced in this thread by people who think it's trash.

I see what you mean in the oddity of Yahoo having at a time been a more prominent company turned news tabloid, but isn't it an irrelevant company in 2020 for the most part?
I could be wrong though.

Youre not wrong... for me it’s just an old habits die hard thing... for some reason I still default to yahoo as a homepage when I use a computer because I’ve just always done it that way.

It’s definitely not irrelevant, though.
