Would be interesting to see a pair of twins dressed the same go in and buy the limit of packs. First one goes in buys packs. Then other twin goes in 10 mins. later. Gets stopped at the register with the packs. You Sir have already bought your limit. Do they check their ID's?

Is there anything at the register that actually limits people from buying more than two? If so, what would stop guys from going to the self checkout and just scanning two, paying, and doing it all over again?

No but last time I tried to purchase half a cart with chrome blaster and cellos and the told me it is only 2 per person. So I bought 2 went outside and went back in to a different lane and tried to buy 4 and the lady was training someone and told them that customers are only allowed to purchase 2 so I go shot down and only purchased 2 more. So I think all the people up front know. At this particular one they have 1 person who tells you which register to go to. My other one isn’t like that and I rarely find anything there. It’s right by my work and I check almost every day.

I would be amazed if someone would actually remember you were there if you came back in the same day.....

I’m sure store managers are super annoyed at the idea of having to enforce limits, they just want stuff sold. (In general )

So the captain obvious question , why don’t whoever the powers that be are just raise the msrp ? Or (and this is admittedly not good) flood the shelves junk wax era style ?

Are you taking into account that most retail products have hobby versions?

1. You go to Target to buy cards for cheap albeit in smaller configurations and will fewer bells and whistles (you get what you pay for)

2. Card companies won't flood the market at the expense of hobby stores and customers who are their meat and potatoes not the retail customer

Guys, I'm new to this thread and have a few questions.

Ever since Fire singles started hitting ebay I've been hitting up my local Target with no luck. Finally, yesterday they had four blasters, but no hangers, fat packs, or boxes. There was some Stadium Club, but other than that it's been dead as hell.

I also jumped around to some local Walgreens with no luck.

Is there a secret to this? I can't tell what is causing stock to be out or low. Is it COVID + Trumpbux or are people really going from store to store buying everything to resell? I'd be interested in hearing some strategies as I'm enjoying this Topps Fire right now.

I did read back a few pages. I'll try some of the things recently said. I wouldn't mind at all catching the vendor and following them LOL Like how often do vendors hit their Targets? Once a week? Do store employees ever know anything or does the vendor pretty much control everything? Like is it worth asking what days the vendor comes or how often?

I live near Charlotte. Maybe I'll just take time out of my day to do some Target trekking. Sorry for the avalanche.

To open or hold then sure why not clear the shelf.

To flip immediately like the retail stalkers are doing then it's running a delivery service for $10 per blaster.

Yeah, I don't disagree with that. Maybe more of a case on the Megas if wanted to flip. I'm busting any cello packs I find and stashing the Megas/blasters.

Toyland basically in all area Targets.

If I find cases of Illusions at multiple L.A. stores then I'll say it's flooded.

Nothing today at 2 Targets, a Meijer, and a Walmart. Did see a new sign up at one of the Targets that no collectible cards can be returned. Wonder if they've had issues with people ripping and trying to return?

Exactly. Topps has been pro-mass retailer for over 20 years now. And now they are leaning heavier into direct online sales. They sell hobby boxes at msrp on Topps.com day of release!

mine locally haven’t taken returns for awhile, it’s printed on the receipt when you purchase.

i imagine it’s a combination of people opening then trying to return as well as speculators clearing the shelf when they don’t know the product then trying to return it once they realize they can’t flip it.

Buddy of mine just told me that at our hometown (I've moved away) Wal Mart he and 6 others were in the card aisle this morning waiting for the MJ Holdings rep who told them last week he would be there on Saturday. Wal Mart manager booted everyone out of the aisle for loitering and 2 of the other guys flipped on the manager and so they took all them to customer service and rolled out the MJ Holdings cases and said split it up and get out haha.

I imagine this is something managers have been discussing on calls with regional and district management

Won't increasing direct sales actually chip away at the market share of mass merchandisers?

There's a vast difference between pro-mass retailer and taking one for the team. If the latter were true, everyone retail hunting for basketball would have their own Mt. Zion.

pretty much every business in the world right now is in the process of increasing their direct to consumer business and decreasing third party wholesalers share. margins are better, and it gives you more control of how your product shows up in the marketplace. i would imagine cards are no different.

Over the long term expect topps and panini to increase what they sell through their digital business. Now there is no denying the power of walmart’s 5k storefronts and Targets 2k or whatever it is, so they’ll still be valuable partners, i would just imagine the card companies are increasing direct to consumer share over time.

I thought the same thing as this, but it might only be when you purchase at self checkout.
