My current favorite is probably Rabbit Hole. Although if I'm being honest, I like their Rye more than their bourbon.

Blanton's and 4 Roses Single Barrel are my daily go-to bourbons. I have bottles of Blanton's Gold and Straight from the Barrel that I dip into on special occasions. I like variety though and have at least 15 different bottles on my bar cart right now. Some of the more enjoyable ones are EH Taylor Single barrel, Noahs Mill, Widow Jane, and Journeyman Featherbone.

On a budget it's definitely Eagle's Rare or 4 Roses Small batch.

Bumping this. Just started sipping bourbon. Definetly like Widow jane, buffalo trace and bulleit. Bulleit is smooth for the price. I orderded a bottle of Blantons tonight. Any others to try?

I’ve tried variety from pappy to Evan Williams and I personally favor four roses single barrel and for its price Evan Williams single barrel is easily the best bourbon out there.
Right now I’m drinking whistle pig farmstock rye and just like every other whistlepig I’m not sure what to make of it.

I've had most of the ones mentioned earlier (still haven't seen Pappy though) and you can't go wrong with any of them. For a little pep I keep a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 around.
The only bourbon I've not liked is Jefferson's Ocean. It's shipped overseas in the barrels. It was way too salty for my taste but a few of the bourbon drinkers I work with love it.

Question for the masses. And this seams to be the right spot.

I have a bottle of Beams Choice. Still sealed. Still full. Its approximately 40-50 years old.

1) Do the contents "improve" over that time or do they have to be in a barrel?

Thanks in advance

I don't think there's a better rail bourbon than Four Roses yellow label. They've got this one dead solid perfect for the price point.

Legent is one that's debuted somewhat recently and is pretty good. Also a fan of Colonel Taylor, Weller's green label and Buffalo Trace. Michter's is also decent.

Bourbon will only change flavor while in the barrel. Even at 40-50 years it will taste just like it did when bottled.

Barrell Dovetail makes for quite the interesting experience. Drinks like a roller coaster with twists and turns. Pricey but worth the first time experience.

Having lived in the south for many years, I am amazed no one has mentioned this.

Look, Rebel Yell Bourbon is good. It's not the greatest bourbon ever, but most people who drink bourbon don't care.

It's cheap, it's smooth, and it has character. I've had a lot of very expensive bourbons...this to me is a great, less expensive options.

Had a try of this in a bourbon flight at an urban bbq place in Chicago. Really liked the nose and palate, but the finish left me hanging. It sorta disappears into witness protection.

Eagle Rare is very good. Not found at every store I frequent though...

Buffalo Trace is probably considered my "house bourbon". Four Roses SB is a favorite.

I just tried a new one I hadn't seen before called New Riff SB and it was truly very good. Will be going back for a second bottle (probably sooner than I should be if you know what I mean...!).

Everything from the buffalo trace distillery is hard to find nowadays. I like eagle rare and I’ve been savoring a quarter of a bottle in my stash because I can rarely find it but sipping it next to Buffalo trace it’s not $15-20 a bottle better. I’ve had trouble finding buffalo trace on occasion the past couple of years as well.

Buffalo trace is hard to find in my area as well. I snatch them up when they are in stock.

Agreed. Evan Williams is phenomenal, especially for the price. I’m not familiar with the names of each but that Evan Williams White Label 100 proof. Oh man have I gotten hammered off that stuff. For $20 a fifth you can’t beat it. The 70 proof Apple, Cherry and Honey are very good as well.

I've got a buddy in Southern IL who is a beer rep and one of his product lines is Buffalo Trace. He even has a hard time getting it and when he does it's just a few bottles. I haven't been there for about a year but there is a run down looking liquor store near me that used to be my honey hole. They'd always seem to have Buffalo Trace, Blanton's, and Weller.

Crazy on the couple responses on BT being hard to find.

Buffalo Trace is incredibly easy for me to find here in the Indianapolis area.
I can buy it all day every day at a Kroger or Meijer. If you time it right with "sales" one could buy BT for under $17/bottle at Kroger.

It’s not easy to find in CT either.

Every kind of Blanton's I can get my paws on as its literally pretty much all I drink anymore. Have a few more bottles stored but this is what fits in the barrel.
