Default The Unofficial 2020-21 European Football Leagues Discussion Thread

About that time for that thread again, the EPL is about to kick off tomorrow with inaugural Community shield between title winners Liverpool and FA Cup winners Arsenal. This thread is to discuss ongoing topics within the English Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and other European football leagues

Due to COVID and last season being extended, the transfer window is open until October, so I am not even going to bother giving my League table predictions now. Big signings a 2 months into the season could change a lot of things.

The 2020 Summer transfer window thread:

League Leaders
English Premier League: Manchester City
Spanish Liga: Atletico Madrid
German Bundesliga: Bayern Munich
Italian Seria A: Inter Milan
French Ligue 1: Lille

Super sloppy today for Liverpool, just like they were and the end of last season.

Honestly think Leeds have a chance at an upset on opening day.

Arsenal has plenty of reasons for optimism. Quite a few guys expected to come in, plus no Pepe or Willian in the squad today.

Hard to tell sarcasm or not - but it appears Ibiza is the likely source they are suggesting.

No not sarcasm, I just missed the Ibiza part.

With that said, given that the virus can stay in body for 14 days (or possibly more) before going into effect, I am not surprised that he might have already caught the virus before the Ibiza holiday.

The Premier League has terminated it's TV deal with PPTV in China. It was it's biggest international deal but PPTV witheld a £160m payment and things just got more and more sour. Some say it's retaliation from China over the way the UK has reacted to 5G / Huawei and Hong Kong. It'll mean a little less money for clubs (£523m over 3 seasons), a messy legal battle over unpaid funds but in terms of the hobby it'll mean less coverage in China. Some are saying it's a ploy by PPTV owners Suning (also the Inter Milan owners) to renegotiate the deal to a more reasonable price as the general feeling is they greatly overpaid, even in pre-covid times. If it isn't just a renegotiation ploy and it is due to souring anglo-china relations then there is the chance, despite the Chinese fan outcry, we see the PL treated like the Houston Rockets there.

Foden making his England debut today.

Greenwood, Philips and Grealish on the bench.

Sancho has been terrible today.

Foden barely had a touch.

If he miraculously ends up in TC UCL... current prices may be a bargain.
