Default Following items stolen at Dallas Card Show

I would appreciate the forums' help in identifying the culprit who stole roughtly $1500 worth of cards from my table on Saturday. The items (I have identified so far) are:

2018 Topps Allen & Ginter Mike Rip Card #d 52/75 ---- Resold by innocent buyer/ not pursuing further
2013 Bowman Chrome Byron Buxton Blue Refractor Autograph RC #d 003/150 ---- Recovered
2015-16 Contenders Kristaps Porzingis Cracked Ice Autograph RC #d 20/23
2016 Donruss Optic Corey Seager Rated Rookie Autograph Blue Prizm #d 1/5

I know that another 3-4 cards were taken but have yet to identify them. Thread will be updated as additional items are identified.

Reward is offered for information leading to ID and recovery.

Thanks!

***UPDATE***

Shout out to eBay seller ahmu-17 for being a stand-up dude. Got back to me this morning. He's a dealer out of Arizona. Purchased lot including Buxton and Trout comically cheap on Offer Up (of course). Allowed me to just reimburse him for cost on Buxton to be returned. Trout was sold at a card show and is now likely in the hands of a collector which I will not be pursuing further. Did not question the story or try to hide what else may have been purchased. Has offered to help find info on the seller.

Got lucky. So A++ highly recommended on this dude.

Terrible. I’m so sorry that this happened to you. Tough to try to set up at a show and make a couple bucks and have to constantly be on the watch for low life thieves.

Sorry for having to go through this. This seems to be common among card shows/people who frequent them. Obviously its only a small percentage of the people who go(very small Im sure), but it happens a lot it seems. 30+ years collecting and two times Ive had cards stolen. Both times were at card shows(6k~ worth in 2008 and 4k~ in 2012). I never got any of my items back. Hope youre luckier than I was. I also hope if you do catch them that you'll follow through with the authorities. Seems so often people are just happy to get their stuff back and leave it at that.

Should post it all over Instagram if you have one. The card community can sometime help find the thief

Damn this sucks. If you’re dedicated and patient enough, I’d put the odds pretty high that you’ll be able to at least track these down. Everything here is serial #’ed and will pop up eventually. I buy porzingis so I’ll be on the lookout. Good luck.

That sucks man. Any chance the room had cameras and you can ask the event center/hotel to review them?

I've often wondered about this at card shows. So many distractions and people passing through.

I hope you find them and the thief is prosecuted to fullest extent.

Kind of scares me into not wanting to setup at a show.

Unsafe to set up at shows and unsafe to sell on eBay.

Dang. Sorry to hear that! I had at least two things stolen from me there that I'm aware of. I'm sure there were more. Not as much as yours but still...

Sorry to hear about the theft. Another bad element of the hobby unfortunately. Good luck in finding your cards.

Do they just go to your table ask to look at cards and then run off with them? Maybe we should look into ways to avoid this at shows as a community?

Set up a camera and have a sign saying the booth is being recorded.

Sometimes people pick something up to get a better look then inadvertently put it on another seller's table when the seller wasn't looking. Doesn't happen often but does happen when dealer tables are crowded together. Tabletop display cases would let you control who picks up cards and also cut down on theft. Not likely that a thief will walk off with the entire case.

Pretty sure there were a number of tables at the last National with cameras, had those signs that said "smile, you're on camera"...

Didn't look hard enough for the camera but definitely saw the sign....

But there have been numerous stories of stuff stolen at the Nationals as well. People are slick and sneaky when there is desired "goods" involved. I always got nervous when someone started to pull multiple items from a showcase, or a crowd started to build up and you couldn't watch everything.

For the member above who is nervous about setting up. You should be, but you can also be smart.

Take a photo of your display case before the show. If you have the time write down your bigger inventory and cross it off as you go. Multiple smaller cases is better than one big case. Use the buddy system... bring someone or team up with one of the other sellers so you can have multiple eyes from multiple angles watching out for your concerns.

Theft is definitely one of the crappier concerns for a card collector and seller.
