Default Cheap basketball packs

My daughter has asked for a few packs of basketball cards for her birthday. I’m mainly a baseball collector. Are there any 2020 products geared toward kids( ie. cheaper)? Any help is appreciated.

retail would be the way to go but the problem this year is that basketball cards are so popular that even in retail everything is bought up, so it's impossible to find. normally the cheapest would be NBA Hoops but everything on the secondary market is expensive this year.

the only thing you might find is Panini stickers but those aren't technically cards. but still may be fun for her?

i don't know if you ever go looking for baseball at retail stores but you could keep an eye out whenever you go, but don't count on it.

This is the only thing I've seen retail in ages.

These packs DO actually have one full-sized card in them per pack, though, if that matters.

Sir I myself cannot believe the current prices. $200 for a $20 blaster box is Insane-O. It would be best to get her some Donruss WNBA cards before those somehow go up.

The Panini stickers have cards in them. Well a pack of cards, that also has the chance for parallels. The Zion and Ja parallels have sold for 400+. It is the one basketball pack that the masses haven't gotten yet.

Agree with everyone here in regards to the Panini Stickers. They've been sitting at every wal mart we have since they were released. It's your only option to be honest

This is why I hate the hobby right now. There is a young kid trying to buy cards and "Sports Card Investors" are raiding Target/Walmart so they can send 1000 cards of Zion, Barrett, Reddish, Bol Bol, etc... off to PSA to encapsulate a cheap card to fetch huge money as a PSA 10. This nonsense needs to stop. What is going to happen is 5 years from now there will be 100,000 PSA, BGS, and SGC 2019-2020 NBA Hoops of someone like Barrett who fades away and will be thrown in the trash. This grading nonsense has been taken too far! IMO, no card should be graded for 5 years. If I was PSA I would make that rule right now. It would get rid of these flippers and "hustlers" that joined this hobby as a "Sports Card Investor." It is sickening!

Wow- pretty eye opening reading the responses and doing a few searches. Certainly the card companies aren’t looking to engage the young collector. Thanks to all who replied.

Opening packs, yeah, there is a thrill in that. But there is also the thrill of owning a collection of cards of players you like, and you don't need to open packs to do it. Buying singles is a great way to get cards into your collection. You could even buy some cards, and self pack them. Or, just splurge and buy some retail packs online, and mix that with some purchase of singles. Good luck whatever you do.

The card companies have released hundreds of thousands of cheap blaster boxes and other retail geared towards young collectors. Unfortunately the demand is so crazy that all of this is instantly scooped up by flippers or collectors who are looking for a reasonable priced open.

Dollar tree “had” some at one point but those were scooped up like everything else.

My grandson and I had a good time opening an older box (36 packs) of 1990 Skybox. It was fun pulling Jordan, Magic, Bird, etc.-Old guys, but a lot of Hall Of Famers that he knew who they were. These boxes are still available for around $20-30 on EBay.
As others have said, new basketball stuff with Zion, etc. is impossible to find cheap (if at all).

The Panini stickers might be the way to go honestly.

Message me. I have two daughters of my own, who aren’t quite at the collecting age. I can send you a pack of vintage if you cover shipping.

Either Panini stickers or older boxes. Anything current from the last two or three years can’t be considered “cheap” by any stretch of the imagination.

It's unfortunate to hear this is an issue.

Some of my favorite products, to this day, are the ones that were cheap back in the day. I really got into basketball with the 1997-98 products and I was all about brands like Z-Force, Skybox Premium, Stadium Club, and Topps base. I think these were all $1-$2.50 a pack. Price aside, I didn't like the look of Topps Chrome, and I still own very few Chrome cards to this day.

It's important that these remain affordable. I'm far from a bleeding heart, and I get that the flippers are working their angle, but I wonder why Panini doesn't just crank the printing presses on a few of the low-end releases.
