Yeah, not really a race to bet a lot on. 3-4 potential winners on paper and from watching replays.

I did think #3 needed a couple more workouts. #2 was just a better horse and there could be a speed bais today but won't know that untill the end of the day.

Only thing I bet today.

Date Time Track Race Stake Pool Selections Debit Credit
07/18 6:18 PM Monmouth 13 $10.00 EX (BOX) 6, 11 $20.00 $436.00
07/18 6:18 PM Monmouth 13 $20.00 WN 6 $20.00 $74.00
07/18 6:18 PM Monmouth 13 $20.00 WN 6 $20.00 $74.00
07/18 1:10 PM Saratoga Thoroughbred 1 $20.00 EX (PWHL) 5, 6 / 3 $40.00 $0.00
Was waiting for the #6 since Mar. Was worried about Hector Diaz but he came through.
Caught Diaz before on bombers but going to the lead.
Tomorrow $100 to win on #2 in the first race. Sar. He's the one I had $100 to win on when he paid $33 and change.

I had the tri and super in the Haskell. That was a no brainer.

Not betting the #2 at those odds. He's 8/5 now, if he breaks like he did his last race and this is 1/2 furlough less. Not worth the risk, he might drift up to 5/2 still won't bet him.

I always shy away from a big favorite at short odds. My LS is Banana Thief #7.

I see mostly inside speed with the 1 entry and the 7 in good shape to beat the 2.

Oh well

We shall see,
Vinny

I'll try to make this brief as I think it might be a fun exercise and would like to hear some opinions. I play the horses on a couple of apps. On Belmont Day, one of those had a promo where they would input $500 in 4 accounts before every race that day at Belmont. They will put the money in with 10 minutes before post and you must bet it all on that race or you lose it. Anything you win is yours to keep.

I was one of those lucky 4 accounts. Not that I'm complaining, but it was probably the worst possible race: only 5 runners with a huge favorite (went off at 2/5). I didn't have much time to think so I put $100 W/P/S/ on the second choice (went off at 1/1) and covered all possible exactas and trifectas with the remaining $200. I was hoping for a major upset. No such luck as the top two choices ended up 1-2. I turned the initial $500 into about $270. In case you're wondering, I pissed that away throughout the day/night. Still, a lot of fun.

So, what would have been the wisest strategy with the $500 given the limited options in the race?

Second, what would a wise strategy be in a more open race with 8-10 runners?

If I understood this setup...
In a small field and having to bet, I would have put most of it WPS on the favorite and maybe $100 backing that up with other picks.
My thought is to try and maintain some of that free money for future races I could do my own thinking and planning for. Even if I worked out $100 after that forced race it would still be free money to use.
If it was a bigger field I would hope to have some picks from quick analysis but if not, I’d again spread it out and hope to have free money later to really play with in my races of choice.
Still great to be one of the 4 picked,
Vinny

Hmmm. Maybe $500 WIN on the 2/5 if I believed

If 8 runners, assuming evenly matched fields..I would chase the Superfecta. Maybe get a longshot in there somewhere.

$1 1/234567 (kick out 1)

4 tickets--- pick 4 you have the best chance to win on top

That's $480 total take the other $20 and bet it to win on one of em.

Easy! Lol

My buddy hit the 10th race super at Northfield Park Saturday night. One winning ticket. We prefer the standard breds but that thread would go off stride here.

That sucks, that's a little more than what I got for the Mo M 2nd finish.

Nice. One of my best memories with my Dad was hitting a one ticket Super at Plainfield Greyhound Park.

Man- I wouldn’t even care if I have hit a dozen BIGGER payout tickets in the past....I would take a super tiny payout to finally get a single ticket winner!

I certainly did not have the stones to put it all on one horse to win, even the favorite. As you said, it's all about having free money to play with on later races. I think you're right that I should have bet the favorite w/p/s and spread out the rest. It's not like there was a lot of money to be made on the race. Here's to hoping lightning strikes again and I get another opportunity.
