Would it need a government bailout to survive?

All I know is that in the state of the hobby, cards will shoot up in value. No stats, no failing, no risk, all potential.

The NFL has been getting a ridiculous government bailout since near its inception. Since 1942 the NFL has been classified as a 501c non-profit which designates it as an entity that does not have to pay taxes because it does not profit. Until last year, it was finally changed after the NFL was forced to have their non profit status removed.
It shouldn't get a bailout nor would it ever deserve one. The NFL like all major sports should be considered a luxury and thus treated such.

No 2020/21 season would cripple any of the major sports league, which despite incredible profits are also very debt ridden.
That being said should be it a one year issue it would likely rebound. |

it sucks for rookies like burrow and tua though. They are pretty much guaranteed starting jobs but will have to wait another year to make their debut. Guess Tua can use more healing time.

You would hear a bunch of whining from players that they don't have any money

If no 2020-21 season. Panini can’t make the rookie in nfl uniform College uniform only. Everything will still go up. I don’t know why that is just how I feel.

i think the NFL has every intent on playing a season, be it 16 games, or 8, they are gonna play.
i think the NFL would rather push for a spring type league instead before they cancel.

No they would not need a bailout. Every owner is a multi-billionaire and they are the most popular US sport. They will be just fine either way. The one sport that I think not playing would hurt the most is the MLB. They have been struggling to bring in fans for years now and getting worse every year. Im still not sure how they have been paying these huge salaries to players the past 5-10 years. I think missing a full season of baseball they will struggle to get fans back in the seats.

I've read a few proposals for the season, and it seems as if they will be doing the season, no matter what at this point. Most teams have said that they are going to be enforcing social distancing in the stands (some to the effect of only having around 40% of the seats filled or something around there) and testing both teams before the game. Even if they empty out the stands and play in an empty stadium, they'll still make a bunch of money in TV money, and people will still be able to watch. Way too much money on the line for them just to say that they aren't going to play. I would even imagine that they'll force the players to sign a waiver saying that they are fully aware that they could potentially get COVID if they play, and have a clause in it that indemnifies the NFL so they can't be sued for going ahead with the season.
To be honest, personally, I think that the NFL playing the season (even if it's in front of empty stadiums) would be one of the best things for the country right now. We need something to discuss that's NOT politics/race relations/COVID related, and football along with fantasy football would be something that could help us all retain a little bit of sanity this fall while we try to get a grip on everything. |

if you are a player, why try and protect against something you ultimately can't protect against. many of your fellow players aren't listening to rules or protocol anyway so they may as well protect their salaries and league, get the virus in a controlled environment, get proper treatment and move on with their seasons. otherwise risk sitting out sick for 2-3 weeks & possibly hurting the entire season. the professional athletes are used to a certain celebrity way of life outside of their respective playing fields. no way that they are giving that up and you will see more cases come. May as well play covid's game and move on for the league's sake.

They would never ask for a bailout because they don't want to risk their anti-trust status from being taken away.

I Could See Them Only Let In Half The Fans.
There Are 4 Sections/Sides In The Stadium. Perhaps Each Section Only Has 200-300 People Each. This Way People Are 6" Apart From One Another. |
