Default The Perennial Kylian Mbappé Thread

Feels like soccer should have one of these. Might as well start with Mbappé.

Will kick it off with one of his better cards:

Ummm. Wow. Incredible card.

I know that people are excited about Greenwood, Fati, Haaland and Sancho but for me it is Mbappe. He is the Messi of 2020’s

Figured it would be easier if all topics concerning Mbappe were consolidated into one thread. Otherwise, it seems a bit messy to have separate threads for showing off, value, rookie designation...etc.

Agreed. When Mbappe was 17, he was leading Monaco to the Champions League Semifinals. When Mbappe was 19, he was a critical contributor to a World Cup winning French Side. At 21, Mbappe has undoubtedly accomplished more than Messi or Ronaldo did at the same age.

He is the real deal.

Mbappe has a better international team ( france) than both messi and ronaldo ever have. But both messi and ronaldo are playmakers ( ronaldo not so much now as he plays as a striker). Mbappe is not a playmaker.

But he is still the 3rd best player in the planet below ronaldo and messi and will be the person to take it forward from the legends. But he has to move to english or spanish league for that.

He'd get smashed to bits in England.

That's why Ronaldo will always be the GOAT imo. Not taking ANYTHING away from Messi, but the bottom half of La Liga is weaker than the Premier League and no where near as physically punishing.

Could Messi do it on a cold Tuesday night in Stoke?

He was not leading them to anything. Falcao was their leading scorer.
They had an easy group that year.

So goes to a stacked PSG team and can't even get out of Round of 16...the next two years.

Team accomplishments mean nothing. Not like he carried these teams on his back.

Let him go play for Cameroon or Algeria and see how many World Cups he wins. He can play for the rest of life and he won't do it.

Pele wouldn't have won a World Cup with Algeria.

Absurd.

It'll be interesting to see how this year's Champion's League affects the Mbappe narrative,
given that PSG have what is perceived to be a comparatively "easy" draw to the UCL Final.

If they win it (or at least make the Final), does that boost Mbappe's reputation even further?

Conversely, if they crash out to Atalanta in the quarterfinals, does that hurt Mbappe?

In the knockout rounds of the 2017 UEFA Champions League, Mbappe scored 6 of Monaco’s 13 goals and in 5 of Monaco’s 6 matches. Against Borussia in the Quarterfinals, Mbappe scored half of Monaco’s six goals and twice at Dortmund in the first leg to help Monaco seize control with a 3-2 victory. Against Juventus in the Semifinals, Mbappe was the only player to find the net for Monaco.

So, there is a pretty strong argument that 18-year-old Mbappe did, in fact, carry Monaco to the Champions League Semifinals.

If PSG wins the Champions League, it can only burnish Mbappe’s reputation as he would potentially be the local kid who finally brought a championship home.

With a strong performance next month, Mbappe appears to have as good a chance as any to not only win the Champions League, but the Ballon d’Or too.

He can carry Monaco but can't carry PSG to the semifinals since they've been out R16 and before him they were getting to the QF at least.

He makes no difference just like Ronaldo makes no difference.
Juventus still can't win CL and Real Madrid winning La Liga without him this year.

Glik was the real mvp of that Monaco team. 8 goals from a CB with great defense.

They'll probably lose to Atalanta....

So I've been picking up raw 2017 Chromes for an average of $90. I don't really do the grading thing, but these cards all look pretty nice.

I've got about 20 so far and debating whether to grab some more.

What are you all's thoughts on the projection of this card?

Prizm WC will probably be his most sought after but I think the 17-18 chrome has to be #2. Prizm PSA 10s are going for around $600 and looks like chrome PSA 10 are around $400.

Chromes have a 54% (79/145) PSA 10 rate so far and I can't get the prizm one because it returns an error message

I would sell a few of those base chromes and pick up the refractor version with the funds.

Atalanta has a really good team, and they're in top form right now. PSG has had a long layoff that could hurt them - who knows if these friendlies will be enough? Atalanta scores goals by the dozen, and PSG's defense has at times resembled a fine French Emmenthal.

Also, for everyone comparing squad successes of the top players I think it's fair to suggest that Neymar matters more to the success of PSG than Mbappe. Better creation, passing, etc. He's been exceptional this year when healthy.

Hi Mbappe collectors. I pulled this a while ago. Any idea on value? Was thinking of getting it graded. I don't collect soccer so I know very little (I know he is good).

Christ, that's a MONSTER card. You have what is known as the Father's Day RC. Assuming it's in mint condition, I'd hazard a guess of at least $1000-$1,500 raw, based on past sales history of other lower #d cards (e.g., $330 for /50 back in March). A BGS 9.5 (non-true gem) #d /5 went for $4k in mid-May. A BGS 9.5 of this card probably gets something close to that now, if not more. A PSA 10 would get more than that, given the premium for PSA 10s over non-true gem 9.5s.

This makes me think I should diversify a little and get a few Prizm.
