I'd go for a Lebron TC Refractor Rookie 8.5/9 or a Giannis Prizm Silver Rookie 9 if you want to roll the dice a little

Diversity. I see lots of suggestions for a James chrome PSA 10. That card was slightly over 1k a little over a year ago. Fell back down to 5k(I think) fairly recently. It isnt rare. Not that its not a good "investment". I'd just say at current prices, seems pretty pricey. If I was forced to pick one player that has potential to really gain and perhaps isnt a "blue chip" like Lebron or Jordan(I think both are over priced unless you're talking super rare ie. Green PMG Jordan(other rare inserts) or rare TC/EXQ Lebron stuff etc.) I'd go with as nice a Giannis card as I could find. I know you say you missed the boat on him, but I think he has quite a bit of room still.

Also, if you feel like you missed the boat on him, then Im not exactly sure why you dont feel the same about Lebron and/or Jordan. Lastly, if you find yourself still wondering on all 3(Im assuming youd like to get a card that could see substantial growth), theres always the kids. Luka and Zion. If you go that route, Zion gives me bubble guts when I think about putting to much money into him. Haha. Luka would be my second choice after G. Personally, my money would go into 4 or 5 2-3k cards though. Good luck with whatever you decide!

1. 2003-04 LeBron SkyBox LE /99
2. 2003-04 LeBron SPX Auto /750 (per above, if you can get it for that price)
3. 2003-04 LeBron Topps Finest Refractor /250
4. 2003-04 LeBron Bowman Chrome Refractor /300
5. 1996-97 Kobe EX-2000 Credentials /499
6. 2009-10 Topps Chrome Stephen Curry Refractor /500
7. 2012-13 National Treasures Anthony Davis /199 (most risky of the options mentioned but could have a very significant pay-off if LAL wins the CHIP +/- NBA Finals MVP)
8. 2003-04 LeBron UD Finite /200

No particular order either. While the MJ Fleer RC is the most iconic, I don’t know if it’ll appreciate the same way as the others (simply due to print run). There might be better “plays” though. If I could see into the future and know KD would return fine and win another CHIP elsewhere (without joining a “super team”), I’d buy his TC orange refractor(s).
I like a lot on this list too. The 96/97 Kobe Credentials /499 ushered in serial numbering and has appropriately risen. For $10K you can get BOTH Lebron's 03/04 SKYBOX LE /99 AND Finite /200 RCs. Not only are they nice cards, but they are genuinely rare.
Since we are talking about this in an investment perspective it's hard for me to include cards that have recently risen that are easy to come by. If the bubble does break these easy to find cards like Prizm could freefall.

Yeah, I'm probably behind the curve now, $11k definitely would have gotten you one until very recently.

Back in March you could have gotten an UD Black dual MJ/Lebron on-card auto patch for around $10-11k. Guess that ship has sailed.

Probably an '86 Fleer Jordan or PSA 10 Lebron Topps Chrome RC are safest long term bets IMO.

can’t go wrong with high end kobe’s at this point which are still a bit undervalued. legacy is bullet proof imo and he plays for the lakers. his name will always be brought up.

+ he has a massive following from asian collectors, so the top end value will always be there.

The safest bet in all of sports is Luka Doncic Optic Holo 9.5 RR

Don't get an auto, don't get into that question of did he sign or did he not
Don't overpay for PSA, who knows how the hobby will view them down the line

Buy the best centered BGS 9.5 copies you can find, throw them in a safe, and your kids will thank you later. I mean, I think you can get at least 5, maybe 6 at current prices.

The last LeBron Topps Chrome refractor 9.5 went for $22k.

416/1042
161/292

That's the number of 9.5 LeBron TC refractor RCs vs the Luka Optic holo RCs

Granted as time goes by people keep resubbing older cards in hopes they can get a grade bump, but there just aren't that many Luka Optic holos. The Prizm silvers are ridiculously overprinted - 762/1845

So that's my advice long-term: go with a still-affordable rare RC parallel from a set that will be loved by collectors 10+ years in the future. Avoid the autograph legitimacy drama, and buy the card not the holder.

Go with the guy who will never lose or get injured again, and whose wax packs aren't still getting busted open, who doesn't have a ton of raw cards currently stacked up in the PSA grading warehouse, and who is nearly impossible to create fakes of: 1957 Bill Russell PSA 6 (well, probably a 5.5 at this point).

I've checked Ebay the past few days. Yikes. I've been completely out of the loop.

Be very hard pressed to find the lowest end, highest serial numbered Jordan/Bron dual UD auto from the late 2000's for 10g's.

Those $1,000 Jordan Exquisite Enshrinements autos /23 I used to scoff at back in '08 are now 7-8k+. The $1,500 Exquisite Auto Patches /100 now the price of a pre-facelift Audi A5.

Poop.

The correct answer was:

2003 LeBron Topps Chrome PSA 10. But you had to be quick...
What was a $10k card on 7/4.... is now a $15k card.

This makes me sad that I didn't extend myself more when I bought a PSA 9 for $600 when I could have bought a PSA 10 for about $2200 at the time. Crazy times

Yikes indeed. I remember BJW had a UD Black MJ/LBJ dual auto patch/5 for 10k [probably would have gotten it a bit cheaper] that I didn't get because I already had the /10 version in my full set.

We were all thinking back in the day, 1000 is a ton of money even for a LBJ exquisite auto.

Now look at us, shelling close to 1000 for psa 10 base cards and well over 1000 for those “modern refractors”

Congratulations to those early Lebron and MJ collectors, you can now buy your own Malibu Stacy mansions.

I'll be the first to say it...

The highest graded 2001 Drew Brees contenders auto you can find.

He holds nearly all of the records and his name will not die out as people try to break them.

Great choice! That card will hold its value even if the card market crashes. The modern cards are far too risky IMO.
