Default Show Off Your Art Hustle Art Cards (Any Series)

I am creating another thread to hopefully see some more wonderful sketches from other collectors here on this forum. For those that have some Art Hustle cards in their collections, please post pictures in the thread below.

For those that don't know what I am talking about: Art Hustle (from Sidekick Media) has released 3 series to date (2010, 2011, and 2013>>which is likely the last). Many of the sets feature artists from the Star Wars Galaxy diecut sketch card series (from Star Wars Galaxy 4, 5,& 6), as well as additional artists known outside of the sketch card realm (check out Official for the large roster of artists who have participated in the Art Hustle sets).

The subject of each Art Hustle set was the artists themselves (and their art!). Each artist had their own base card (with bio on back) and an additional base card that featured a piece of their art. Chase cards included variations of the base cards, autograph cards, and original art cards. Subsequent sets included additional chase variations (including artist paint brush cards).

To be honest, the art cards in each set are a mixed bag (which is a shame). Like every sketch card set, some artists did the bare minimum, while other's stuff really shined.

This series popped up on my radar recently when I was browsing some boxes of cards and came across a card I honestly didn't recall owning:

"Sea Gull" by Lou Pimental for Art Hustle Series 3

This led me to search eBay to see if I could pick up any other cards from the same artist. Luckily, I found (and my OBO was accepted for):

"Temmincks Tragopan" by Lou Pimental for Art Hustle Series 3

Lou's stuff really shines... I thought some of you might enjoy seeing it and/or sharing your own AH art cards from your collection.

If anyone else collected cards from this set, please post your faves below. I have a few more that I might post (no more Pimentals though... unfortunately) if this thread gets any additional interest/pictures posted.

Time to dust this thread off.

A few years ago in a little shop which mostly sold vinyl toys and trendy t-shirts and art from local artists and such there was a box, about half full, of The Art Hustle - series 2. I'd heard of this series and seen some of it posted but had no desire to bust a box at retail pricing however I figured a couple packs were worth a shot to see the stuff.

I grabbed a stack of packs and one of the packs was super thick, at least twice as thick as the other packs so I took that one and one next to it. Once home I opened the wax packs... actual wax sealed packs just like when I was a kid opening Topps baseball. It was a pretty cool throwback and honestly the novelty made the experience all the better. Good thing I waited to open them at home or I probably would've gone back in and bought the rest of the box.

The normal thickness pack held this cool Mark Mothersbaugh autograph. He is in the band Devo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIEVqFB4WUo and aside from that a pretty accomplished composer (crazy the number of soundtracks he's on) and painter.

And the super thick pack held this awesome mosaic Lego Batman symbol by Gary McIntire, a master model builder at LEGOLAND California. All the little square tiles are on a 8x11 plate... which is the exact size of a standard trading card, and explains the thickness of the pack and if memory serves there was only this and one base card in the pack. Looks a little like a Tie-Fighter, so that's doubly cool. I've looked and never seen another of Gary's cards posted in the wild, and I think he only did ten - four of which were a four card puzzle of a Pac-Man ghost. There's a bit of wax on the bricks but I left it as it came from the pack.

This was such a great concept, hopefully one day it can make a comeback.

Wow! I forgot about this thread! Thank you for bumping and posting an awesome autograph and a cool bat symbol art card!

I also wish they continued doing these sets. Sidekick media (who printed the set, still has a hand in other sets (they are being used for the Topps Mars Attacks Kickstarter set for example).

Simeon Lipman, who headed all three Art Hustle sets and the Star Wars Galaxy 6 diecut set (Akbar heads) is also a pretty interesting guy: Simeon Lipman | Antiques Roadshow | PBS

Bumping this really old thread after recently picking up 5 more Lou Pimentel bird water colors from the Art Hustle Series 3 set. I am not buying many sketch cards lately, but I really love this type of stuff.

EDIT: Bird names left to right from top: Rooster, Cedar Waxwing, Whiskered Treeswift, Peacock, and Bare-eyed Pigeon

Just picked up this beauty!!!

I've been searching for a Brett Ratner art card since the Series 2 release -- and years later I've finally managed to snag one off the bay.

Cost me a pretty penny but it's absolutely stunning.

Default Love the Art Hustle

Trying to complete my Master set of artist original cards from Series 3: The Art Hustle. But I will never turn down a double created by either Junko Mizuno or Sqwak! Oh, and I also love Konatsu! Here's a few of mine

In 2011, Sidekick Media released “The Art Hustle” series 2. The mini cards (called “Menko”) were inserted 2 cards per pack.

Default Thanks!

Thanks!

Looking forward to exploring the site and chatting it up.

Plus I know that I've got bunches of old weird cards in my attic...
Maybe I will find a home for them! Jaws, Grease, Mork & Mindy, my Older Sister's basketball/football cards that she passed onto me as a kid, Garbage Pail Kids, etc...

This will be fun!

My favorite non-SQWAK & Junko Mizuno card pull to date... was a winning card for an original sculpt card by Elizabeth McGrath. The crazy part is that I pull the winning card THIS YEAR! I read the back and the offer expired back in 2014, 6 years ago! I thought what the Hell! I sent in the winning card and The Art Hustle honored it! I got this original in the mail shortly after. So cool that this is a 3 dimensional sculpt! Looks like a French Bull Dog to me, either way LOVE IT! lol

Congrats on winning the prize and I am glad the company still honored it years later. That’s a really nice piece!

This thread’s resurrection has had me browse old scans for Art Hustle cards and I found this fun one from Series 3:

Negora the Kaiju Cat by artist Konatsu

Iirc the artist did multiple Negoras for the set that look much like my card. The artist’s character Negora is kind of popular and pops up in other art pieces and toys such as this one

I wish I had been collecting when this set came out. Some one should put out another set like this.

I was watching a box of these on Ebay. It sold for a lot more than I expected:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/30354578488...rue&nordt=true

There's a seller with boxes of Series 3 for $120. Anyone know what the original retail on these was?

I believe that was close to what retail was for this. Maybe slightly higher? The first 2 series were sold directly through the Art Hustle website by the series creator Simeon Lipman. The 3rd series was not sold directly by Art Hustle and I think most of the boxes made their way to stores that sold custom toys and stuff and maybe modern art gallery gift shops.

Default Retail 140

I saw a release write-up where it stated the boxes were roughly $140

Sadly, I only have one series2 sketch (Tone Tank) and one series1 sketch (Pon). If you end up needing either, LMK and I’ll see what I can do. Good luck!

I remember buying packs of this from my local Newbury Comics. Probably back in 2010? 2012? so those would be Series 1s? Never pulled a sketch but I pulled various artist autos that I wound up selling later for like $0.99 a pop as there seemed to be zero interest in that stuff at the time.

I tried sending a private message but is there any way you’d let one of these go, sell or trade? Trying to complete the set and this is one artist i’m missing. Love his stuff and such a nice guy. Thanks for starting this thread. I’ll post some of my favorites tonight.
