Supply and demand. I resell on the side hence the name and see the sneaker community drive items that would net a nice return straight into the ground.
The only thing I agree on is that this print run and total fail of Griffey and Nolan Ryan reselling will ensure that the resellers either stay away or don’t buy as many as they did today.
I’d buy Zion panini products and hold because the demand outweighs the supply
You can’t tell me that there will be enough demand for this Griffey to hold and get some sort of return.
Again ^^^ unpopular opinion

On a side note
SLAP THE BIN ON WILLIE MAYS SALADEEN
price is too high

If the market cap per card is $1M, we’re at an $88M market cap, or $3,385 per card sold. Well 82 out of the 26K have sold for $3,385+, so I’m going to go ahead and say the market cap of the set is quite lower.
People have been trying to affix a "market cap" to sports cards a lot during the last few months. Yesterday it was $4 billion, indicating that Topps Project now would surpass a $4 billion valuation. For comparison, in strict "market cap" terminology, this exceeds Under Armour.

The calculation of every card ever made*highest value an individual card sold for is not indicative of anything.

I have no clue?

I suspect completed sets in 2 years will settle down around the buy-in (not that everyone could be sold for that amount at the time).

The buy-in is $7K.

The total number of completed sets will be a max of 1065 I believe. Do I think $700K for all completed sets is realistic? No.

In terms of market cap for ALL cards? Tough without all the PRs yet. Once the dust has settled and you see the total number of cards you can have a better idea.

To date, Topps has sold 500K cards. That’s 15% of the sold secondary market cards on eBay. That’s an absolute insane number when you consider the bull run we’re on with cards currently.

Do you realize how insane that number is?

That’s the same as every 1952 Topps graded by PSA averaging $1500.

Do you think P2020 is greater than 1952??? Do you you think the demand is anywhere close to that set?
right now the demand for and interest in p2020 certainly seems much greater than 1952, with a strong appeal outside the card/sports world as well

in the long run, I say no way, but at this moment, yes

Once again you are referring to resellers and not the sneaker community. It's the resellers that do this no matter if it's sneakers, clothes, electronics or cards.

I see people congratulating others in this thread for reselling yet you want to blame the sneaker collectors for ruining this drop by reselling.

Have reflected on this for a few hours and I think this was actually a very positive thing.

You will likely see a mass exist of flippers and eventually PRs willl fall back to folks truly interested in the artist and I think that interest will continue to rise. Today you just elimated the outlier of people buying 10-100 cards per day regardless of player and artist.

Think things will settle back down to 20-40k PRs which still will allow for early releases to hold tremendous value.

My Top 5 Thus Far

1) Efdot Ted Williams-haven't received it yet, but it's gonna be beautiful
2) Gregory Siff Ripken- spectacular (I'm stoked for his Mattingly too)
3) Matt Taylor-Rickey Henderson--pure 80s awesomeness
4) Andrew Thiele Mike Trout--timeless beauty
5) King Saladeen Derek Jeter-one of the early hype cards and captures spirit of P2020

McGwire Shore 1175 BIN hit and Fucci Trouts still over 150.

You cannot kill my joy.

Nice deflection, that's what all PBM's say.

Put your money where your mouth is and post your eBay username.

Toughest pull yet. Aside from an actual mammal getting an AP from the Topps website.

Is there outside interest? If so how much and how do we quantify?

r/art has 17.7M members. How many mentions of P2020? I think you could guess the answer.

I don’t doubt the cross over appeal, and I love the set. I just don’t see the Falcon 9s lined up to take us to Mars.
