The Basics: The base set will once again consist of 3 cards

On a serious note, considering the current pandemic, how can we have an Update set if there is no season? Update is all about Rookie Debuts and the All Star game. Without a season, thats like 2/3 of the set gone

That's not a typo ... that's called Buzz working pre-caffeine. Fixed on first read after posting.

There will be cards looking back at past All-Star Games and HR Derby events ... which actually could end up being very good.

They need a subset of Update cards never made over the years because they screwed up the internal deadline for adding cards. Think Castellanos/Cubs last year (I'm sure there's plenty more examples others can find)

they need to to fill out the set somehow but these are derpy.

I'm sure people will chomp up the parallels but don't see them as long term quality.

Meh. It’s gonna make 2016 look like 2018 as far as RCs. And as mentioned there has been nothing to update so far.
Ooh past asg and hrd stuff....
That’s gonna be a easy no for me.
This will be a good test of the market for pre sales. If a hollow shell of update commands a big pre sale premium then we know that we’ve gone completely bizzaro card world.

Couple random things I noticed:

Tsutsugo RC in Update, which means one name off the board for the Series 2 RC class.

Potential for a few "zero year" cards. In theory, you should have a bunch of one-year signings that will show up in new uniforms in Update, with the chance they never actually play for those teams.

With no extra RCs cluttering things up, could be an opportunity for a "1st flagship" card for many back-of-the-roster veterans. Zero interest for the investors, but could be big interest for team/player collectors at the low end of the hobby. Hopefully Topps puts in the work on this front.

That would be, very Topps. A ‘draft’ card for a player that was never drafted. In a set for a season that might not exist. For a player that may never reach MLB.

(I don’t think they will succumb to 2-s mania in this one when they could instead include him in newly cooked up print-to-order products that are basically like printing money for Topps).

Yup, if they play. Problem is the printing deadline has got to be months before release. Unless they push it back significantly I don’t see how the minor league guys make it in(as RCs)

If the season does get going, the sensible thing to do would be to push back the release date to allow for some of the early season rookies to get in. There would still be plenty for S1 next year if they did that.

Or maybe they try to ride minor league inserts for this one, release on time knowing that:
A- the update name alone will sell through well enough
B- if a season happens every minor leaguer will be legible for 2021 s1, setting them up for another monster like this year.

love the Jeter manufactured relic cards. hopefully will be able to pick up a couple at a reasonable price after release
