I sold 2 on B/S/T so far. Both easy transactions with less fees.

Not to mention, one would think buyers AND sellers on here would be MUCH more likely to honor deals for fear of ostracization and ridicule by other members.

Mattingly Siff -- sitting there at $160

He's only done Ripken, Brett, Ryan and Mattingly. Has almost no hype yet. Picked one up. Might have to get more.

What we don't know yet is how much of the demand is authentic and how much of the demand is artificial. By artificial, I am referring to people buying these cards with no interest in anything but selling them later for profit. As word about this project spreads, and people figure out these cards can be bought directly from Topps for $20 a card, we will see gigantic print runs (already happening) from both those collecting for personal enjoyment and those buying simply to sell for profit. Eventually, the genuine collectors buy what they want and those buying for profit will be left with no one to sell to.

I have really enjoyed this project from the beginning. I am collecting two artist sets and picking up random cards from Topps if they appeal to me. I have not sold a single card despite the current high value of many of the cards I have. I happen to think there are many people out there like me in that they are seeking to collect certain mini sets within this project for their own enjoyment. When you think about how extremely limited these artist/player sets are, it makes sense to me that the first cards released, with extremely low print runs, are skyrocketing in price. More and more people are becoming aware of the project and seeking these cards for their collections. As a result, I do not see these early cards going down any time soon. I do worry about the larger print run cards.

I keep wondering how many people are collecting sets within this project, how many are collecting individual cards they like only, and how many are simply buying to sell for profit. We simply do not have answers to these questions.

To touch on a few of your points above, the fact that these do not hold any allure to you means nothing. A 1952 Topps Mantle holds no allure to many people also. Topps Living set is a bad example because it has no end. This project is defined. As more collectors discover these cards and are drawn to them, the more demand goes up despite the supply of those cards released thus far being set. You hit the nail on the head when you asked how popular do we expect these cards will be. I think we are getting a taste of just how popular they are given pricing on early releases and print runs on newer releases. If you consider that these cards do in fact have extreme appeal to many people across different collector groups, I do not necessarily agree that the market is acting completely irrationally, as we don't know the extent of the demand to make a statement like that. At the end of the day, you may very well be right, but you could also be wrong because you underestimate the demand based on your lack of allure. Either way, I appreciate your post as I struggle with much of what you are struggling with also. One thing is for sure, I am enjoying following the project and will continue to do so regardless of pricing.
This whole project is bananas, and I feel it's prudent to lock in some of the profits. I've been in since the beginning, and I've been selling all the way up. Sold Ermsy Goodens @ $80, $100, $200, and $400+. Same on Siff Ripkens, Saladeen Jeters, etc etc.

I only like selling when I have cards in hand, but I will slip a few out before in order to basically cover my costs. I sold a couple of Baller Trouts that I still don't have in hand in order to pay for my entire order from Topps. So I've invested thousands into these cards, but am currently cash neutral. Meaning that I sold enough to pay for all the cards I currently have on order or in hand and I am then playing with 'house money'.

I'm also a believer in the set and have been since day 1 (the only reason I registered at BO was to talk about this set). If I truly believed this would crash/burn, I'd sell all my current cards and just buy back later, but I'm not convinced of when the crash will come, so for my PC artist sets, I most likely will not be selling my cards at any price.

So yeah, it's sound advice to exercise prudence. I buy a lot of cards, but I only use money that I don't care about losing. To extend yourself to buy ballooned up P2020 cards is a very stupid thing to do.

That is a lot of money. How do we feel about that?
A $4 billion dollar market cap would mean that a set of non-autographed, mass produced baseball cards released in 2020 holds a higher "market cap" than Harley Davidson or Under Armour.

Isn’t it kinda hard to compare a bunch of assets to a company?

Let's talk about the assumed Gary V endorsement pump...

What would he actually endorse to his followers? Typically he endorses the easier to get, smaller priced items. He pimps $50, $100, etc cards. Mass quantities that are more on the low end. So in theory he should be pimping the previously/more recently released Baller/Thiele Trouts, the Jeter Taylor/King, and so on. As well as high print runs that already in hand or a recent example of McGwire Blake thats not in hand. And I could see him endorsing buying from Topps on release day moving forward. But I wouldn't expect him to spend much time on the lower print run Gwynns, Koufax, JK5s, etc of the world (expect for the Ichiro Baller & Trout Ermsy). But thats not his thing. In the card market, he typically doesn't pimp expensive hard to find products. IE Acuna & Soto Update PSA 10s, Giannis & Luka PSA 10s around release, etc. But his endorsement (assuming he's going to give one) should raise all prices. I just don't see them effecting the higher end stuff, as much in the beginning.

Between the time of buying them for $34 combined and them arriving today the combined market value is $500

Project 2020 ain’t no joke... but I still don’t buy into the long term hype

Proud to say I bought the first 80 and will have sold most of them. These are in the for sale pile for sure. Just have to get organized about “when”
