I believe I saw that in one of the threads. I would say "don't quote me on it", but you already have. ;-)
Talk to your friendly BGS rep for a more precise answer. I remembered someone saying that they could move their non-guaranteed order up if they would allow them to be graded without subgrades, but they had already been waiting a year and so would rather have what they paid for than be bait-and-switched. Check the "83 days" thread for recent posts if you want to dig farther.

Yes they are able to grade them faster so they charge less. They are “upgrading” orders to a guaranteed time frame and taking away subs if you want they down. Somehow people are STILL sending in for non guaranteed service. I just don’t get it.

I think if you are getting cards back with 9.5 subs for the corners you are doing VERY well- not only in your own assessment of the card but also from the objective view of the grader.
10 subs are- by their very nature- reserved for the best of the best. Pristine. Even the most minute speck or infinitesimal nick to the front, back or even on the card stock edge of the corner should knock the grade down from this Pristine 10 to a still very respectable 9.5.
Also- as noted by jewcer in his original post- hold the card up and tilt it back and forth under a light. There could possibly be the most imperceptible deflection at a corner- caused by something as innocuous as the card being wrapped into the pack or mechanical collation at the factory.
At least IMO.

Hello! I had a question regarding yellowing of vintage cards, which I honestly believe has a shot at a 9 or possibly even a 10, but has yellowed some with age over the years. The card is Beautifully centered, though with nice sharp corners; will the yellowing significantly reduce the grade? Or not a factor due to age? It’s a 1962 Parkhurst hockey card. Thanks!

PSA submission question.

I've only ever sent in one batch of cards to PSA; a group submission via Josh's website. I was thinking of doing my first ever bulk solo submission and I'm wondering if it matters how you organize the cards for the submission? i.e. do you keep them organized by player, set, year, etc...
I imagine some organization helps the process but does PSA have an actual recommendation or do people have tips based on experience?

Also, since I don't care about the turnaround time and I'm lazy, does anyone know if someone offers "slow boat" bulk submissions for $9 or $10 a card? I'd be willing to pay a little upcharge if someone else is willing to do all the work for me.

You can do submissions to PSA using the "New Group Breaks" forum here on Blowout.

How you submit them is your choice. My recommendation is to use the online submission form on their website. They'll still make data entry mistakes (they call mechanical errors), but they now have a stage where you can report them before they mail your package.

Question from a first timer, Just now thinking about sending some items to be graded.

Question is, why do people use penny sleeves in card saver 1's? Is it really necessary? and Do you recommend it? It seems like one more step that would tick off a grader, having to remove a card and then remove the sleeve again.

Mostly because chrome cards will scratch as you slide them into the cardsaver. So if you put them in a penny sleeve first, they stay in the best condition. You also have less of a chance of dinging a corner when you're inserting them. Graders are just fine with penny sleeves.

I never did grading before, sorry for this question -- so in order to get cards graded I need to send in a minimum of 50? I cant send 10, 20, 30, 49?

Depends on your service level. Most people are sending in some certain number to get bulk/value pricing instead of paying the standard $20/card. Check the quarterly specials page or the member specials page to see what service levels you plan to use and whether there is a minimum order to get that pricing structure.

cleaning question: watched a video on youtube about using paper towel to clean however microfiber seems to be the most common recommendation. Another option I am seeing is to get a Q-tip and loosen the cotton on it, then use that to wipe surfaces. Any advice? Looking to do my first solo sub

I would use a microfiber cloth. Don’t use paper towel.

Yes, usually when they charge your credit card. I used to use a specific credit card just for PSA so that I could get an immediate email notification when a charge was made.

If my cards are in the QA2 stage and I see cert #'s for the cards but it doesn't show up in the pop report yet, does that mean they did get a grade or not necessarily? I requested a min grade on them.

Pop report normally takes a day or two after the cards are shipped to update. So that doesn't mean anything yet.

When cards are submitted, do the grading companies pick up the packages from the post office or do they get delivered via a mail truck? If they are delivered by truck do they keep them secure while making stops? Our post office frequently overlooks packages and even drops off at wrong address. Our neighbors have had to hand over mail severla times. It seems like it would be risky to trust them to go out via hand delivery.
