Default anyone else hate all of these sneaker sellers moving into cards?

As someone has been a casual collector for a long time it is just so bizarre to me to see all of these kids join in. The skyrocketing prices are concerning to me. Whether we are seeing a pump and dump or just a huge amount of cash in fluxed into the market. Not to mention the idea of going to get a box to rip may soon be gone.

This is not meant to be a whining post just curious of everyones opinion on these new "investors"

I started collecting basketball cards in 1996, and stopped around 2005 then went back to hobby 2018. While away from the hobby, I found a new hobby and collecting sneakers, I have around 175 pairs till I got tired with these kids just trying to buy it to resell them and so hard to buy em these days compare before that you just go to stores and buy em. So I sold around 150 pairs and walked away, I returned to collecting cards and now I'm seeing the same problem. You are 100%, im seeing a lot of kids and grown up sneaker reseller now collecting cards, it's just funny watching them bust it on youtube and they have know idea about cards.

I agree thats something that bothers me too when I went on youtube to see them talking like they had any clue. It seems they are creating a huge bubble

When I came back to hobby back in 2018, I have no problem getting Panini product, I could walk in to Walmart and Target and be able to grab some, not anymore.

It’s so bizarre to see kids in a hobby originally meant for kids! So bizarre!

I’m 19 and this doesn’t make any sense. First, sneaker heads are a thing you do in middle school. I didn’t even collect sports cards in middle school. Secondly I don’t know any kid who collects sports cards for resell besides myself. This is something I’d be made fun of if I told people my age

this may be the case for you. In general I would say you are uninformed. If you have the time id say look into sneaker heads now, much more than middle schoolers

In 2010 or so, I wanted the Jordan Retro 3 Cements. On eBay they were $240. I found them at my local Exchange for $120. I bought 2. I sold the extra pair within an hour after posting them eBay for $225. I went back and bought 4 more. Sold those during the weekend. I was hooked for about 2 years. At one point I owned over 100 pairs. When I got re-stationed, I pretty much stopped. Sold most during Christmas and gave a few away as gifts. I'm down to about 8 pairs now. I should've built the 2003 Exquisite basketball set instead.

I didn't know any sneaker heads in high school and I was in high school last year. In middle school everyone was a sneaker head. My best friend was a sneaker head in middle school but he stopped in high school

What there has been lately is a lot of BBall sports card collectors pumping in the football market it seems

Just imagine all this money flowing in and then seasons get cancelled due to a second pandemic wave.

On the other hand, there’s a lot of young blood in all four major leagues and we should see a “changing of the guard” as a new class of “elite” players step into the spotlight. If the pandemic stays manageable and we get back to normal with sports, this could be a great time for a new generation of collectors to emerge.

Alot of this started when Stockx started having exclusive bowman products. Slowly, sneaker heads started to see potential in sports cards based on the tracking that Stockx provided. These folks decided that sneakers weren't the only thing that money could be made on so they have jumped on board.

Combine that with the Patrick Mahomes emergence, Lamar's MVP and crazy season, Zion, Ja, Luka, Trae, Acuna, soto, Alonso, tatis, and of course Trout. Its a perfect storm for collectors, investors, and flippers.

With the rise in prices of the silvers, holo's, parallels, and the products perceived scarcity, it has been a meteoric rise.

The baseball guys will tell you chrome is king. What we are seeing is that chrome like products and parallels are taking off.

It is suggested there community figured out that there was money to be made resell fotl releases. They brought along their online shopping bot programs used to buy hot sneaker releases to scoop up all the fotl products in microseconds which is why hardly anyone on the boards is able to score fotl anymore. It’s very likely they use the same bots for online retail.l releases at target and Walmart. They were easily identified as board members history checked eBay accounts and most had only sold sneakers previous to fotl boxes. I’m not 100% sure they are involved in the price increase of singles as I’m not sure many have ventured into singles but I do imagine they are part of the reason.

I hate new money in the hobby. It leads to making more money when due to the increase in demand and I hate that also. When can we go back to the junk era where cards are worthless?

Leads to 12k cases of Prizm (BKB) when years back cases could be had for $600-700.

Depends on how the new money flows in. New money buying singles to hold....awesome! New money buying singles to flip......cool with that too! New money buying up wax to bust....sweet, more people in the hobby!! New money that only buys wax to resell (especially when they use bots) and doesn’t contribute otherwise to the hobby.....that blows!!! Now if they were buying to flip the boxes and used some of those profits on singles I’d have no problem. It’s the new money that strictly buys up wax to flip. It bloats the price for actually hobbyists

My wife loves them because i’ve been selling all my cards to them lol. I don’t usually sell cards, but at these prices I feel like I have to.

Yea I hate them too. Let’s start a BO buyers group on FB and outbuy (overpay) for everything. That’ll teach those sneakerheads who they are dealing with, this is our house.

10000% disagree with you.

You may not personally know any "kids" that resell sports card or memorabilia but there is a lot of them. I grew up on eBay buying and reselling sports collectibles. I also did a lot of in person autographing. Not a single person who knew of me doing this thought it was weird, they were jealous that they had to work at Taco Bell making what I was making while sitting at home.
