Well dealers, perhaps you aren't as important as you thought.
Maybe next time some people can set their egos aside and assume positive intent other than calling BS/Fake News/ETC just because they or their friends didn't hear of it first.

That is NOT how this forum works.

Rule #1 - your own opinion is the only one that is right
Rule #2 - if any evidence is given contrary to your opinion, cry "fake news" and blame breakers and bots
Rule #3 - the more times you post something, the more true it makes it
Rule #4 - if none of the above work, post gifs and call names

Now, you are BO ready!

This will end up being the most successful national of all time with more money spent at this event than any from the past decade. Period.

Why don't all the dealers just set up a virtual online marketplace, so the show can proceed as originally scheduled?? They could all upload pictures of their cards, and set "immediate purchase" prices... and maybe buyers could submit a "haggle price" to offer a lower price for any card that they're interested in. If the seller approves, then that buyer gets the card! I think it would work pretty well. But the site will need a name, of course. Something like eCards or interBay. Ah, forget it... It'll never work.

No it will not.

BIG money is spent the Wednesday/Thursday of the National normally. Would that now be Saturday/Sunday?

You then continue to make $ Friday-Sunday from the more casual collector. That certainly wouldn’t be Monday to Wed of this projected plan

This is a placeholder move with a cancellation going to happen. Dealers are going to pull out left and right and absolutely no one will be buying large booths signing contracts that they can’t shut down early on a Tuesday/Wednesday.

No dealer is going to miss the National in the midst of what is a sports card renaissance. You would be a fool to do so. Dealers can literally cover their costs by selling a few Zion Silvers.

I think you’re very wrong there are many dealers who would prefer to skip out on this iteration on the National should their contract allow.

I think the people giving the OP grief did so because this idea sounded so absurd....and it is. Not a surprise considering the desperation for the NSCC to have a show this year. No easy answer and I don’t begrudge those being responsible for having a plan.

That being said...maybe I will make a trip out of it from Florida...room booked for cheap and I can always cancel.

Dealer here. I will not be there. Too close to Christmas to make the two day trip. I can make just as much selling online as I can there. The weather will be crap and attendence will be down. No thanks

I understand that as well. I was actually really surprised to see a reschedule announcement instead of a cancellation

That’s too bad, but I get it. Hope it’s not the norm.

If PSA, BGS, and all the manufacturers will be there, I will be as well! Can't wait!

One Factor I think may play into this is the Casinos. What if they spoke with the board of the national and offered some sort of incentive to still try and hold the show this calendar year (ie: maybe pay for the convention center)? So what would the National have to lose postponing until the last possible open weekend of the year, especially if they have a financial incentive.

Sure, plenty of time to still cancel and also plenty of time to see if it can be viable. If the show goes on, attendance will be down, the convention center won’t be “sold out”, but there will still be people. There will be dealers who were unable to get a booth this year, that now may have a chance. Plenty of people go to Valley Forge in December, plenty of people go to White Plains in January.

Let’s also face the reality of, this business goes hand in hand with gambling. That is what the casinos would bank on. Also, as stated above, in this current hobby climate, if PSA & BGS are there PEOPLE WILL COME. Especially for on site encapsulation.

Just my .02. IF the show happens, attendance will be down, but the big money will still show up, they always do and there will be plenty of action.

What’s the reasoning? Virus? Low turnout? Expense? Time of year?

All of the above. To your point, a card "renaissance" is the perfect time to miss because it has never been easier to move inventory on eBay. In a normal year, dealers would be relying on the National as a huge piece of their annual income. When the market is this hot, you don't need a show like that to move Zion silvers. Just sell on eBay for a fraction of the overhead.

I have a 10ft space that I rent for cost. Between the table space, hotel, food, and travel, my budget is $2,000 to setup each year for 10 ft of space. I would much rather stay at home and continue selling on eBay than to venture out at the start of winter, with a virus that will still be present in some form, at a show that will be the lowest attended in the history of the National. Saturday/Sunday will be just fine. Monday-Wednesday will be a ghost town. There's just no reason to go this year.

All that being said, I suspect it will be cancelled due to lack of interest. Enough dealers will back out, there won't be any autograph signings, no Panini VIP party, and right before Christmas budgets will be tight. It's the perfect storm of circumstances that will not bode well.

someone told me there's a waiting list of 80 people, if true plenty of people to fill in for those that don't show.

One other issue with the dates that I haven't seen mentioned. The dates that have been proposed are during Hanukkah, that would certainly keep a number of dealers and buyers away.

Just as an FYI, Chanukah is not a super important Jewish Holiday in terms of religious significance. It is obviously important in terms of fun times and presents. But among the reasons noted for not going to AC in December, Chanukah is way down on that list and not really a factor.

Rich
