I'm 100% ok with protesters voicing their opinions regarding the lockdowns. It's been incredibly frustrating for all of us. And this is coming from someone who works in healthcare and has seen the ramifications of covid.


What I'm not okay with is them showing up with semi-automatic rifles. Why?...……………..just why? Are they worried about an attack from a bunch of nurses? Do they need to defend themselves from a gang of left wing liberals? Are rabid animals on the loose?


I would take them a lot more seriously if they didn't portray themselves as a bunch of wingnuts--NOT ALL OF THEM, but enough to tarnish the whole group.

I don't disagree with any of that. My question is: how is more government involvement (ie.socialized medical care, UBI, etc...) going to help? The things you are calling for require handing vast amounts of our money to the government and relying on them to make everything work.

The numbers from that article put an average of $90,000 per person into these retirement accounts like employer matched 401ks. The largest percentages of involvement are (unsurprisingly) the 60+ demographic. Why? We need to understand that fewer companies are offering matching 401k programs and those that do match are often matching smaller percentages than they were decades ago.



Selling that $90,000 average as influential or impactful is disingenuous. It may be enough for people to feel like they're part of it, but they are standing outside and just hoping for a bit of crust to come off of the 1%'s beef wellington.

Of course the 60+ demographic are more involved. Young people don't give a lot of thought towards retirement, but they most certainly should. But go ahead and dismiss the rest of the age groups as they go against your agenda.
For the record, I've taken out a loan against my 401K to help my daughter out with her college tuition.
Most people don't even realize they can do this. I get charged an interest rate of 3% which gets paid into, you guessed it, back into MY 401K. So I'm basically paying myself a 3% interest rate. There is a nominal fee somewhere around $35 a year for administrative costs.
The reason I mention this is to show my 401K is not just simply for my retirement, it can be used towards lots of other neccessesities.
Now I have no idea if other plans have this feature but I'm guessing most do.

We have vast amounts of money . How we chose to spend it is the issue. Practically every other country has figured out how to make socialized medicine work why can’t we ? Either a cap on what can be charged for rent or a realistic minimum wage is desperately needed . Safe , basic ,clean housing , healthcare and food are human rights and have no place being for profit businesses until the fundamental needs of everyone is met

The answer is really quite simple, symbolism.
It's an important right that many on the left want to take away.
